The retired Army brigadier general holds a 1 point advantage over Hassan, 48 to 47 percent, according to Saint Anselm College’s New Hampshire Institute of Politics poll.....


Partisan intensity among Bolduc and Hassan supporters is approaching parity, the poll suggests. While 93 percent of Democratic voters back Hassan, 91 percent of Republican voters back Bolduc, compared with an 11-point spread a month ago. Hassan is now tied with Bolduc among undeclared voters at 45 percent after leading by 8 points among that demographic in September.....

Hassan can be an Arabic last name, but it is also a very common Irish last name. In the Irish case, it is an anglicized version of a Gaelic name. Maggie Wood married Thomas Hassan, who is one of the most Irish American people I have ever seen. I think the hatred of the Irish in New England politics has all but vanished, so I do not see this as a problem.

In Ireland/Scotland, the surname Hassan is one of the anglicized forms of the Gaelic (Irish/Scottish) form of Ó hOsáin. It is to be distinguished from Ó hOisín and Ó hOiseáin (Hession and Hishon). In County Londonderry, where it is numerous, it is spelt Hassan, Hassen, Hasson, Hassin and Hessin. In the Monaghan Hearth Money Rolls of 1663, it appears as O'Hassan. Celtic history always fascinated me. It is hard to say when the Celtic language was introduced into Ireland, because pre-Christianity they had little contact with civilizations that were literate, and even less writing. In theory, it was introduced sometime between 600 BC and 200 BC.

So to be sleeper agents, the Irish Hassans would have had to insert themselves into Ireland over 2,000 years ago. It seems a little silly to sane people.
 
Random side point: Bolduc is a Canadian misspelling of a Dutch name. Bolduc's ancestor came to the USA from Canada to avoid fighting in WWI.
