Republicans to Boehner: Stick it up your ass!

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2012/12/20/boehner-republicans-fiscal-cliff/1782213/

WASHINGTON — House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, was handed a stunning defeat late Thursday by members of his own party who refused to support his "Plan B" to avoid the year-end "fiscal cliff" that threatens to send the economy in to a recession.

GOP leaders worked intensely Thursday to build support for Boehner's two-pronged legislative effort to cut spending and extend current tax rates for all but those earning $1 million or above, but they could not convince enough Republicans to vote for the proposal in the face of what was expected to be unanimous opposition from Democrats.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"We have established what you are, madam. We are now merely haggling over the price." It's the punchline of a joke, sometimes attributed to George Bernard Shaw, and sometimes W.C. Fields and others, but it might well apply to John Boehner tonight.

The PRINCIPLE remains intact. Taxing "the rich" is not a solution to our spending problem, our debt or deficit. In fact, it wouldn't even be guaranteed to increase tax revenue. It certainly wouldn't increase it enough to reduce the deficit, and in order to reduce the national debt, the deficit has to be eliminated entirely. But in the wake of the 2012 elections, Speaker Boehner felt compelled to 'work a deal' and 'compromise' with the president, who claimed he would veto the "Plan B" suggested by Boehner anyway. So, I guess it's for the best that House Republicans rejected Boehner's proposal without a vote and headed home for Christmas break.

Maybe the Zombie Apocalypse will happen tomorrow, and take care of this issue for the Speaker. If not, he may be in for a rude awakening when it comes time to select the new Speaker of the House, because that's not a "done deal" either.

I was listening to local left-leaning talk radio guy who said Nancy Pelosi was on board with Boehner on the "Plan B" or raise taxes on those making above $1 million/yr. This article said there would be unanimous opposition from Democrats. Anyone know if Pelosi changed her position or did our local radio guy just have it wrong?

Well Pelosi is an idiot, but I don't know why she would support anything the GOP offers up, since their plan is to let us go over the fiscal cliff and then blame it on Republicans. I'd be inclined to go with the left-leaning talk radio guy as being the bigger idiot of the two in this case.

Local radio guy had to have had it wrong. Boehner's failure to pass Plan B means that anything that passes will have to have Democrat votes and gives Pelosi a seat at the table. His failure is her gain.

And Dixie, if nothing passes, taxes on the rich go up anyway. I'm not sure why Boehner thought it was going to change the dynamic, but he did. This is one of the most embarrassing incidents for a speaker in memory.

So does everyone else's taxes, so it's zero-sum game. There will also be massive spending cuts, and almost certain recession. In case none of you pinheads have noticed, the "rich people" generally do better in a recession than the middle class and poor. You see, they have this thing called "wealth" and don't have to do without like others. So you'll have your tax increases on "the rich" like you wanted, and we'll see how things go then.

What? How is that a zero sum game?

Are you trying to talk like big people again without understanding the terms.

"Taxing "the rich" is not a solution to our spending problem, our debt or deficit"

Here's the deal - and I won't go through this too many times for you. No one is suggesting that this is the ONLY way to attack the debt or deficit. They need to do EVERYTHING THEY CAN to attack the debt or deficit. If Republicans won't agree to cut taxes for the wealthy, or make significant cuts to defense...what exactly are they willing to do? Oh - what's that? They're not willing to compromise at all, and instead want everyone in DC to act as though they just won an election they lost?

Grow up.

Because EVERYBODY will realize a tax increase. Therefore, the economic impact is a "zero-sum game." The same thing happens with a tax reduction as well, that's why the Bush-era tax cuts didn't spur the kind of prosperity the Reagan-era cuts did. Reagan made huge cuts to the top marginal rates, while actually expanding the base of middle class taxpayers, who got a much smaller cut. The result was 30 years of economic prosperity, the longest period of peace-time prosperity in our history. We didn't get that kind of result with the Bush tax cuts, because everybody got basically the same cut, and it was a "zero-sum game."

Then you have six million reasons not to worry, don't you?

he is tone deaf to the american reality. i really believe he is completely bought and paid for by some very wealthy people. i don't think i've ever heard him espouse political thoughts that benefit most america, rather, only those ideas that benefit the rich.

I'm grown, you are not. The "tax the rich" idea, even IF we doubled the amounts you want to increase the tax rates, would pay for about two weeks of operating our government on the current budget. That is IF the increases actually resulted in an increase in revenue, which is an assumption that never seems to play out. Every time in history we have raised top marginal rates, we've seen a DECREASE in revenue as a result. On paper, if everything stays the same as it was, it appears that an increase in tax rates would generate more revenue, but in practice, that isn't what happens because things do not remain the same after the tax increase. The "rich people" simply find other things to do with their wealth besides gaining taxable incomes, and you end up with LESS money than if you had left their tax rates alone.

You want to "cut defense" but I sincerely doubt you're going to like the results of that either! When you cut defense, you have to close bases, and that means thousands of people without jobs, and hundreds of businesses going under because their town is a ghost town without the military base. Specialists who work in good-paying jobs as defense contractors, are suddenly unemployed, and the private sector simply doesn't have much need for nuclear weapons techs, so we have to pay to retrain these people or support their families. You don't have any kind of an answer for these problems because you're an immature little emo child who can't think past the head of your dick. All you know is you loathe the military because they start wars and stuff, and you don't like that, so you think "cut the military" and it will only be good, what happens next.

You keep regurgitating talking points. Raising taxes takes care of large chunk of the problem - they wouldn't pursue it otherwise. It doesn't tackle the problem, which is why Democrats are also suggesting cuts to their beloved programs, like SS & Medicare.

And we've had numerous discussions about your perpetual stimulus program for unnecessary programs in the military.

What happened to your whole "vote present!" thing, anyway? The GOP is acting like they have all of the cards, and don't need to move one iota. It's embarassing, it's hurting them in polls, and will burn them for years to come if they don't start listening to reason.

Truly

Yeah, you are a retard. In a zero sum game all gains of one participant equal all losses of other participants.

So you think economic prosperity comes about by giving the rich an advantage? Lol. God damn, you are fucking stupid!

he is tone deaf to the american reality. i really believe he is completely bought and paid for by some very wealthy people. i don't think i've ever heard him espouse political thoughts that benefit most america, rather, only those ideas that benefit the rich.

Here's the thing, you want to "HELP" the middle class? You want to bring back economic prosperity for all? CUT the top marginal rates! ENCOURAGE the "rich people" to make as much fucking profit as they can! Because, I guarantee you, when they are making money, we are ALL making money! We ALL have jobs! The more "the rich" make, the more they NEED the "non-rich" to do the things they don't want to do, like polish the yacht, wash the Lear jet, give the old lady pedicures, etc., etc., etc., and it's endless prosperity for ALL!

YES, I am ALL for "benefiting the rich" because when they benefit, so do the rest of us. The more they make, the more tax revenues they pay, and the more money we have to spend on social entitlements and all the rest. This is much better for the middle class, and especially the poor, than this mindlessly stupid WAR ON THE RICH!

You keep regurgitating talking points. Raising taxes takes care of large chunk of the problem - they wouldn't pursue it otherwise.

Bullshit! It just simply DOESN'T! Period! They pursue it because it's part of the class warfare rhetoric, which is the basis for Marxist Socialist policy.

It doesn't tackle the problem, which is why Democrats are also suggesting cuts to their beloved programs, like SS & Medicare.

But they are NOT suggesting cuts to anything! They are suggesting we cut the amount of annual increase, and at the same time, proposing trillions of dollars to be spent on funding more social entitlement. Like I said, you could double or even triple the rates they are proposing to increase taxes on "the rich" and even IF this resulted in the increased revenues they project (it won't) then it wouldn't pay for a fraction of what Obama already has committed to spend over the next 10 years.

And we've had numerous discussions about your perpetual stimulus program for unnecessary programs in the military.

You can have all the discussion you like on it, like I said, you want to cut defense, that's fine! But be prepared for the consequences, that's all I am saying. Is there something you're not getting here? When we cut the military budget, bases are going to close and entire towns are going to evaporate. I have no problem with us "saving the money" by cutting stuff we don't need, but what are we going to do about the consequences? Do you have any solution whatsoever for this? Are you just going to blindly and stubbornly do this anyway, without considering the consequences? Are we supposed to pretend that we don't comprehend the consequences until they happen, then run around with our hair on fire about it? I am mature enough to at least discuss it, and consider the ramifications. You just want military cuts, to hell with what that actually means!

What happened to your whole "vote present!" thing, anyway? The GOP is acting like they have all of the cards, and don't need to move one iota. It's embarassing, it's hurting them in polls, and will burn them for years to come if they don't start listening to reason.

I don't give a damn about polls or politics. Listen to REASON? When the fuck have you people been REASONABLE????
