Dissent is very important in a democracy, in what way has it been punished?

What democracy? Dissent is often put down in a democracy, usually leading to an oligarchy or dictatorship in the process. A democracy is an unstable form of government. There are currently no democracies anywhere on Earth.

I see how Trump punished any dissent by "primarying" any candidate who dared cross him at all... He asked that anyone who dissented at his rallies be punched in the face... he attacked John McCain's military record because he dared question some of Trumps actions...

Twitter, being a website, used to enjoy protections under Title 47, $203; which protects that website from user opinions. Now that Twitter has injected their OWN opinion, and is punishing people by saying they are 'violent' in order to close their accounts, Twitter has LOST that protection. They are open to lawsuits now for libel.
