Republicans do well to fear the media because democrats basically own it. Pelosi and company know all they need to do is give voice to a narrative and their media minions will obediently pick it up and run with it. It becomes TRUTH lol.
Largely because of the media, Republican cowardice can always be counted on and that’s been true for a long time. But it’s gotten much worse under Trump.
And on this border issue it was textbook. Why is a minor appropriation [5 billion out of a trillion dollar budget] for ANYTHING such a big deal that either side would risk a government shutdown over it? It’s not. It’s ludicrous. In fact, it had to set some sort of record for congress being miserly with tax payers money.
This wasn’t a risk free move for either party since they both played a role in it. The difference is Pelosi knew all she had to do was frame the argument such that republicans owned the shutdown and bingo—republicans owned it. Trump didn’t help matters by claiming to own it but anyone with half a brain could see that democrats could have averted it by simply voting yes on a 5 billion dollar appropriation.
But once it got labeled as ‘extortion’ it was game over for republicans.

The Repub. negotiators ( Shelby et all) got rolled,and they did it willingly
it goes back to Ryan and McConnel who negotiated that horrid Omnibus Bill that Trump signed in 2017.

Not really. The GOP was all about Trump and Russia in 2016. In fact, they changed their party platform to cater to pro-Russia factions. McConnell took $2.5M for his PACs from Russian-linked Oligarchs during that cycle.

The economy isn't even that great.
If it was, then tax revenues for 2018 would have surpassed 2017, but they didn't.
The only other times this century when revenue was below the year before was during the Great Recession (2007-2009) and the Bush Tax Cuts (2001-2003).
Conservatives said that cutting taxes would increase economic activity which would increase revenues.
Only, revenues didn't increase, so their fundamental belief is horseshit...and they know it.
