Republican wakes up!

you see you believe in god

that is fine

there is no proof such a thing exists

pretending you are better than other humans because you believe in a certain one is not OK

that will never be accepted by your fellow human beings who have different beliefs than you do

I believe In facts not faith

I will get things correct more than you will because of it

If we don't know the cause of something we look for the cause

we dont just say "oh well its god wishes"

we find out

then we fix things you wanted to just accept

see why science is INDEED better

but that isn't what happened here, so you've negated your own argument......

Refusal to provide a service to someone because they are gay (in other words: different from the baker) is in fact discrimination.

Putting a religious veil over bigotry, hatred and discrimination isn't any more convincing than wrapping a golf club as a gift. They both show exactly what they are and aren't hidden by the nice-looking wrapper.

And, again, this is especially true when the bible used to brow-beat people marked as "sinners" is in fact the same book that says you should be treating those "sinners" the same way you want to be treated yourself.

If you step down off that pedestal you've undeservedly put yourself on and accept the hypocrisy of what you're saying (the bible has a lot to say about hypocrisy, too, incidentally), maybe you'll understand.

You actually asked Troll, but this is a political debate forum, so I'll just throw my 2 cents worth in like anyone else would.

"Freedom of religion" means that you are free to practice your religion.

It does not give you the right to persecute and discriminate against others based on that religion - especially when that religion (as in the case of the Christian example) specifically states that you shouldn't discriminate.

this

well put

But who is it that's doing the brow-beating? There's the perception that gay marriage was rammed down the throat of society, while it was still debating it, by SCOTUS. Then there's the gay bakers who are faced with ridiculous civil fines for merely being faithful to their religious principles. I get the idea they feel pretty browbeat about it.

You might want to check your own pedestal before casting stones at others.

In their refusal to abide by the Constitutional guarantees of equality, I'd say it's the Christians who are brow-beating.

I want you, not a general "you" but specifically YOU, Omar, to tell me precisely how gay marriage was rammed down society's throat, because it wasn't.

Oddly enough, in a country where our Constitution guarantees equality, it was EQUALITY that was rammed down the throats of society, because discriminatory practices were refusing to give that guarantee to an entire class of people.

There's something of a difference, and the fact that the Supreme Court of the United States said anything other than, "You people don't understand, "equal" means "equal," case dismissed, the 14th Amendment stands, same-sex marriages are legal under the auspices of the Constitution. LUNCH!" is astonishing because it means even some of the Justices think "equality" is something that should be debated.

And I've already discussed "religious principles" here in this thread ad nauseum. In the specific case of Christians, they cannot claim religious conviction if what they want to base that conviction on is in direct contravention of the bible from which their religion flows. If they do, they're just play-acting and ignoring what Jesus said in favor of bigotry, stupidity and an unwillingness to actually follow the tenets of the New Testament. This point is paramount when determining whether or not a person is a "Christian" or just pretending to be one.

How many times must I say it in this thread? Jesus taught that equality, not discriminating against others, treating others as you yourself wish to be treated and love are how Christians should approach life. That was his schtick. He was huge on it. And since he is the Christ, then what HE said, rather plainly and multiple times, is in fact what a Christian is.

If you're not doing what Jesus taught then you're not a Christian, you're just a wolf in a sheep's skin.

Wolves cloaked in sheepskin aren't sheep any more than Christians who engage in discriminatory practices are Christian, and therefore their claim of standing on Christian principles is nullified because they aren't actually following the faith, and their bigotry is the result of personal philosophy and not religious conviction.

they are just sure they are better than everyone else who doesn't share their religion.

Its unAmerican

What you are preaching is the liberal version of tolerance, which is tolerance dressed up in religious garb in this instance. Christians in this country are quite capable of 'not being bigots' while trying to honor their religious principles at the same time.

In fact, if they were really bigots they'd flat out refuse to serve gays the way white bigots refused to serve blacks, decades ago. The ONLY service they refused was to bake a gay wedding cake.

And that, is throat-ramming.

it isn't.......but forcing one to bake a cake they don't want to bake, because they feel it is wrong under their Christian beliefs obviously interferes with the free exercise of what they believe.......

No the exercise of Christanity has nothing to do with denying your services to anyone.

We just have to sit back and let all of the muslime immigrants you are letting in do it. That is what you want right?

As long as they are properly vetted under existing laws, what possible justification is there for excluding them?

I'll understand if you can't explain, jut as you can't explain your "proposals" to make The US a "safe space" for conservatives.

I don't favor banning a religion. I favor banning a region.

Pretty simple actually. No immigration from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Africa, Saudi Arabja, Israel etc.

You're completely glossing over what I have repeatedly said: Treating others with love, respect and how you want to be treated yourself is part and parcel of Jesus' teachings. If you are going to deny someone service or treat them differently than you would like to be treated because they are different from you, then you're not a Christian according to the person upon whom the faith was founded. This, in turn, means that they must be basing their behavior on bigotry instead of Christianity.

This isn't difficult, Omar. You may not want to admit it, but fact is fact. Jesus taught tolerance. Anything other than tolerance is not what Jesus taught. That may be circular logic, but it's 100% accurate.

Jesus would be rolling on his cross if he could see what evil is constantly done in his name by fake Christians.

Finally, no, you're absolutely wrong about something else, and that is your assertion that a baker refused to bake a gay cake.

Nobody refused to bake a gay wedding cake. Cakes are cakes. I think you will find (with the possible exception of some highly specialized bakeries) that cakes do not have gender (or sex).

Or am I wrong and cupcakes are the offspring of cakes that are getting up to bumping icing when the bakeries close?

I'm sorry, but repeating your error does not make you correct.....
