The GOP do-nothings in Congress have to bear responsibility for causing the revenue shortfalls that are making America weak .

Their frenzied devotion to further enriching the already super wealthy by fiscally starving their own nation is puzzling, since they claim to be patriotic.

The GOP is a collection of spineless cowards who do nothing but juggle the balls of the 1% business slime.

It's a shame that the extremely stupid wing of the party has Koched-up the defense of the 1% as the GOPs only real policy.

The defenders of tax cuts for the super rich correctly state that the wealthy pay most of the federal income taxes.

What they fail to mention is that the 99% pay far more than the 1% more as a percentage of income.

For example, Warren Buffett has revealed that he only paid 17.4% of his income in 2010.

Joe Sixpack pays far more as a percentage of income due to loopholes in the tax code that favor the ultra-wealthy. Then there are the myriad excise taxes, fees, state and local taxes, etc. which hit the poor and middle class hard.

The average worker doesn't get the tax breaks and bailouts afforded the 1%, and must pay payroll taxes on their wages.

The rich pay only if they earn wages up to $106K, and can afford lots of tax lawyers and accountants to find ways to legally escape their responsibilities.

Our nation is in dire need of revenue.

A decade of tax cuts plus Bushs' two wars and his unfunded pill bill have depleted the Treasury, and the rich expect the middle class and poor to sacrifice while they do nothing.

How is the right going to run next election when everybody knows they represent the 1%? They've obstructed any progress and refused anything that will cost their backers a penny. Since their trickle-down, deregulation, greed is good ideology has gotten us into the mess we're in, how can they justify representing only their monied interests when a lot of the 99% are feeling the pinch the right is responsible for?

The only way to do it that I can see is to lie. So they'll pick the best liar, invest billions in foreign Citizens United money in propaganda and negative advertising and go from there.

Same song, different day, corporations are now people, they can spend these millions they are saving by not hiring to buy candidates.

You're an obedient lefty. You're thinking exactly how Obama wants you to think. The rich aren't the problem. The problem is this administration. You're falling for the smoke and mirrors liked the Wizard of Oz.

They are arranging things so that fewer of the 99% can vote...just like when the Founding Fathers didn't allow those pesky poor folks to cast a ballot.

Tax the top 1 percent

The latest data show that a big portion of the federal income tax burden is shoul*dered by a small group of the very richest Americans. The wealthiest 1 percent of the population earn 19 per*cent of the income but pay 37 percent of the income tax. The top 10 percent pay 68 percent of the tab. Meanwhile, the bottom 50 percent—those below the median income level—now earn 13 percent of the income but pay just 3 percent of the taxes. These are proportions of the income tax alone and don’t include payroll taxes for Social Security and Medicare.

First of all, the Senate and White House are controlled by the Democrats, therefore, Democrats control Congress at this time. In fact, just recently a bill was introduced to raise taxes on upper incomes, and it failed to get enough DEMOCRAT votes to pass in the Senate.

Secondly, the average income of the top 1% is around $340k, which is down more from last year than any other group of income earners. The actual number of taxpayers who make up the top 1%, is just over 1.2 million. The total income of the top 1% is approximately $400 billion... or roughly one fiscal quarter of the amount Obama is overspending in his most recent budget.

Currently, the top 1% pay an effective tax rate of 28%, which is higher than every other group... the top 5% pay 20%, while the bottom 50% pay less than 3%. 48% pay no tax at all... (is that their 'fair share?') But even if you raised the top 1% to 100% taxation, confiscating every penny they will earn for fiscal year 2011, it would not be enough money to pay for one quarter of Obama's budget shortfall this year.

wow!

All this countries problems started the day Obama was elected? 30 yrs of voodoo economics, failed trickle-down theories, deregulations that led to major economic meltdowns, tax cuts for wealthy while Bush pushed 2 unfunded wars, Reagans greed-is-good idiocy, Clinton signing Nafta/Gatt....

Come on man... are you really that stupid?

The problem in Greece and other countries is not Bush, Reagan or Clinton. It's too much spending and socialist policies.

LOL at doublewide Dixie...

The GOP has a big majority in the House.

The Democrats don’t have a 60-vote filibuster-proof majority in the Senate.

Nothing will pass the 112th Congress without Republican approval.

Poor men crying about not stealing more of rich peoples checks is gay'r than Elton John. It's ok for woman they are actually discriminated against. Sorry for the interruption; proceed fanny pack brigade.

The problem is reduced government revenue.

When the rich were taxed at a higher rate America had jobs and a surplus.

Bush cut taxes and borrowed and spent.

It will take raising taxes on the rich for years to get our surplus back.
