Republican Meltdown!

And what exactly what would be an improvement to you?

A republican party that advocates abortion? queer marriage? higher taxes? more government intrusion into our lives?

In short a republican part that calls itself an opposition party but does what the democrat part wants?

A Republican party that rejects the use of words like queer. A Republican party that promotes commonsense answers to the Abortion problem instead of a hard nose drive to an outright ban no matter what. A republican party that accepts equal protection for all Americans. A Republican party that allows a tax schedule that more resembles the historical tax schedule that existed when America did not live on debt and was more reliably profitable. In short a Republican party that is less absolutist. A Republican party that will not only be an opposition party, but one that will lead!

What do you guess I meant?

Very few of the Democratic party supports Direct Socialism, but I would say the majority support adding some "socialist" elements to our system in an effort to create a more even opportunity less dependent on the conditions upon which you were born.

Not even Bernie Sanders is a pure Socialist, he is more of one than any president we have ever had, but on the spectrum there are very few who are 100%.

Direct socialism? Is that different from the "democratic socialism" you support?

How much of your wealth are you willing to have the government confiscate in order to reduce inequality? I don't want to hear how much of another persons wealth you are willing to confiscate. That is easy. How much of YOUR wealth?

Ask Damocles, it was his term.

I am willing to pay taxes based on the more historical rate of a time when we had more reliable prosperity and lived on less debt.

Just a bunch of claptrap. Sorry, but I don't support "commonsense" answers to killing a baby. There is nothing commonsense about that. It is funny that you believe the democrat party isn't absolutist in its positions.

What historical tax code are you referring to? And since when did our country not live on debt?

You can't be more specific? Can you give me a year? Something to nibble on? Come on. You are supposed to be smart.

Its been happening for years for anyone who is paying attention. I hope it happens to the Democratic party next.

I think it's over due. Democrats have won the last two elections by glooming together a coalition of minorities---and these groups have their own interests that don't neccessarily coincide with the other groups interests. So far, the democrats have managed to hold it together by making it an 'us vs them' affair with white republicans being 'them'. Obama being a community organizer was the perfect candidate to capitalize on this political model.

That's why the War on Women [hereafter designated with the acronym WOW] was so critical to Obama and is critical to Hillary. That's just one example. On practically every issue democrats portray republican's as bad old meanies. The same sort of animus that drives so many republicans toward Trump, can drive blacks [for example] away from the democrat establishment. It only needs to dawn on them that they've been sold a bill of goods by the democrats.

And I would say it's not if, but when.

For the sake of discussion I agree with you that blacks have been sold a bill of goods by the Democrats. But what have Republicans done to make black voters want to move over to their side?

I think it will be a fight for the Southern vote, but what is happening is that the voters who remember the fight over segregation, those who left the Democratic party because of Johnson's stance on forcing them to integrate are dying out. Its not going to be so easy to get the South simply by throwing racist shade. The Southerners are however the most reliably conservative voters on other issues. They are very religious and blur the line between religion and politics more reliably than any other group. The Conservatives will have the Southern Vote, but who will have the Conservatives?

Yet oddly your thesis is that they bolted to a party that was responsible for Johnson PASSING Civil Rights and had a much longer history of supporting blacks than the democrat party. Apparently that all seems very logical to you. Or it is just another lie you tell yourself?

So basically you want the country to be like San Francisco where everyone is Democrats but they are divided between the 'moderates' and (very) progressives.

It's quite shocking a guy who supports Bernie Sanders would want that.

You have to understand that Trump scares the left as well. Despite GayRod's comments, he is worried about Trump for the simple reason that they really aren't sure what they would get with Trump. They know what they get with the current crop of GOP establishment types. They have the Washington Generals. That is also why the hate Cruz. Cruz actually opposes liberalism. The current crop of Republican Failure Theatre offers token opposition, while always giving the democrat party their way.

So you don't support exceptions for rape, incest or the life of the mother?

Yes, the Democrats have sold a bill of goods to black voters, but its better than winning by throwing animosity toward them.

The system is antiquated and both sides need to stop, for the good of all voters. Maybe one thing achieved by the coming realignment will be how both parties relate to minorities. Maybe the issue will finally be addressed in a real way without both sides using it for political advantage.

The Country has taken a huge step forward on these basic issues, if Conservatism is going to continue to have a party they want to call home, the will have to move off the old mark. Look at the studies, even a majority of those calling themselves evangelical support the right for gay people to form a legal union. When you have a certain percentage of your party still calling gay people "queers" in this century it becomes impossible to startle that divide, they will have to let the bigots go, or stay with them. One choice is death, the other is life for their party.
