Republican frontrunner and likely nominee, Its appropreate for Gay sex to be illegal.

So does it bother anyone or not?

Does anyone support Perry here?

Why is he so far in the lead?

Thats why I called him the frontrunner and not the nominee. So, does it bother you or not?

You said likely nominee. Why is he the likely nominee? Because he leads today 14 months before the election? Didn't some polls show Trump, Romney and maybe even Bachmann or Palin leading at one point too? So what makes you think he is the likely nominee?

I will discuss that once we have discussed my origional question, you guys keep desperatly trying to change the subject.

The subject of your post starts with Republican frontrunner and likely nominee. My first thought when reading this is why do you believe he is the likely nominee.

Would you like my answer? It is the same one Bill Maher would give...

I understand why you are trying to change the subject, it is very telling about how you feel re the subject.

Anointed too early, Perry isn't very likely, IMO. However, he had an opinion, tried to get it done, and was ruled against. At this point I find it highly unlikely that he'll try to make it illegal to have a homosexual relationship. In fact I doubt he'll run on that. Although he is likely against homosexual marriage, Perry isn't stupid enough to believe he'll be able to change the constitution.

The reason I belive Perry will win the primary is a combination of factors. 1) He is way ahead in the polls. (see the below link) 2) The voters already know the number two, Romney and he is not exciting anyone. 3) The previous front runners were not creditable canidates, Perry on the other hand has built a national orginization and is the current governor of a major state. 4) Perry has demonstrated the willingness to play the game necessary to win the Republican nomination and has positioned himself as a rabid social conservative which appeals to the red meat of the Tea Party. 5) Essentally Perry is Backman but has a dick. Backmann suffers by the comparison of her to Palin and regardless of if they will admit it (even to themselves) or not, the conservative voters perfer not to vote for a woman.

But does the fact that he, while in office, expressed his belife that its approperate to use the power of the government to control people's bedroom behavyor bother you at all?

Damo,

I agree that...

1) He will not try to make homosexual sex illegal.
2) He will not run on that issue.
3) He cannot change the constitution.

What bothers me, and I am shocked it does not bother small government Republicans, is that a man who seriously belives this use of the governments power is approperate would even be considered for nomination to be President of the United States.

No, not any more than somebody with a differing opinion on any other constitutional issue. Had he started a drive to change the constitution I would be more worried. Often, especially in social issues, people disagree with my opinion. So long as they take their loss with aplomb rather than attempt to drive it after the decision has been made I don't really care.

I know for a fact that Obama doesn't share my views on the stuff I find far more important at this moment, including homosexual marriage. So why should I let that bother me when Obama and Perry agree on homosexual marriage anyway?

Rick Perry is a politician. The law was already on the books. I'm sure he saw no advantage electorally within Texas to fight and change it so he said it was acceptable. Seems pretty straight forward.

WEll, when a person belives its approperate for the government to be in the bedrooms of consenting adults, it illistrates his view of the roll of government and disqualifies them from my vote.

Thanks for finally answering.... SO you are okay with it because he was playing political games for electoral advantage?

I didn't say that dude. It's pretty clear why Perry did it. I've said nothing of supporting the guy and I sure as hell didn't call him the likely nominee.

It's just cynical political pandering to his base. I pretty much ignore that crap. I want to hear where they stand on specific policies and could give a flip less about these stupid divide and conquer wedge issues.
