My kids are stuck on all the Democrat whoo haw and won't even try to listen to my views or tell me why I am wrong. When I didn't vote for Obama I was a racist. If I support Trump I am a bigot. In all actuality I truly don't think I am either. Race had nothing to do with why I didn't vote for Obama. Why Trump, I kind of like what he has to say and think some of his ideas are real and possibly good solutions for some of the mess this country is in. Does that make me a bigot??
I was raised in a suburb of Phoenix which consisted of a mixture of young families of all nationalities and races. I attended Catholic school in my earliest school years. I don't consider my self a religious person and I was never taught to be prejudice. I have always had friends of all races. In my opinion, if you come to live in this country from somewhere else I expect you to learn English. Does that make me racist? I am the one that feels discriminated against when I go into a store or business in the neighborhood I grew up in and all the posted signs are in Spanish, the announcements are all in Spanish and all the customers and employees are speaking in nothing but Spanish. If I was to go live in Mexico, I would make sure I learned Spanish as quickly as I could.
Anyway, back to what I was talking about. I am not ashamed to admit that in my 55 years of being alive I have voted in only one election ever. Not because I supported one of the candidates but because I especially didn't want one of them to win. That was the 2008 election in which I registered as an Independent because I have never considered myself a Republican or a Democrat and especially since I never saw any point in voting. The main reason was because I have never truly felt drawn to any of the choices that have been on the table. For the first time ever, I feel like there might just be a candidate worth the time and effort to vote for. I don't deny that the Republicans really messed things up in the past decade but Obama has only added to that mess even more.
I think what I find appealing about Trump is the fact that he is not a politician. I have never had a favorable opinion about any of our so called politicians. To me the definition of a politician is someone that is completely corrupt, a liar, a thief and diabolical. Look at Hillary. I wish someone could explain to me why anyone would even consider for a minute that she would be a good choice for President. It totally baffles me that she is even in the running and that she is in the lead. What are people thinking???? I mean look at her track record. I don't see anything impressive.
Other things I like about Trump is his disregard for political correctness. I mean give me a break, hasn't that been taken way too far. You can't say this or that because someone might find it offensive. If you say Merry Christmas you will offend non-Christians, you can't say pledge of allegiance anymore because it contains the word God. You have to make special rules for this and for that to make sure you don't offend anyone in the gay community, or someone of Hispanic descent or someone that practices the Muslim religion. Slavery ended over 100 years ago and there is not one single person alive today that ever owned or was a slave in this country. The Civil Rights movement happened over 50 years ago which I feel is something that truly should have happened. No one should be treated the way people were prior to the changes made as a result of the Civil Rights Acts. But you still hear people claiming to be victims. It often seems like minorities in this country have a lot more opportunities and benefits than others. When Trump says he wants to deport anyone entering this country illegally or staying past the time they were admitted for why is that such a bad thing? When he says he will block Syrian refugees from coming into the country until improvements are made to the way we screen immigrants why is that such a bad idea? I don't get it. I consider myself to be a fairly intelligent person but it seems that there are many people that find these ideas to be moronic.
I don't expect that Trump will work miracles or make everything wonderful but I do think that his tough attitude, business experience and thinking, record of success, ability to get things done and his leadership give him real potential to make things better in this country. At the very least, I doubt that he will do any worse than our past Presidents or any of the other potential candidates. So for the very first time I actually feel drawn to exercise my American right and duty to vote for the next President. If that makes me a bigot and a moron, oh well.
