They're Burning Books in Tennessee
Last week, McMinn County made news when the school board voted to ban beloved graphic novel Maus — a Holocaust story told with anthropomorphic mice and cats — due to instances of swear words and nudity. While the vote happened in early January, it went viral following a report from TN Holler.
Last night, Mt. Juliet pastor and pro-Trump conspiracy theorist Greg Locke decided to turn it up a notch by organizing an old-fashioned book burning. The books included millennial staples like Harry Potter and Twilight — hits of the early Aughts that were targeted by Christian book burnings back in the day.
In a sermon preceding the bonfire, Locke described beefing with "Free Mason devils" and said "I ain't gonna be 'suiciding myself' no time soon." Locke also said people aren't mad that they were burning books, but mad because of the books they were burning — implying that his critics, even other pastors, were devil and witchcraft supporters.

Maybe, but your side will end with both of us destitute and in chains. At least I'm trying to stop that while you are encouraging it...
They are copying some of the same political correctness they attack. It is similar to college hate speech codes that ban speech or actions which are offensive or course requirements that students warn before making any "triggering" statements that might offend others. Or, requiring "safe places" where students are safe from offensive messages.
Now we've got political correctness from the right.

There has long been a tendency to white-wash history. School children of the 50's and 60's were taught that Native Americans were savages. That was reinforced in the white-washed Hollywood movies. Only after people grew up and if they took it upon themselves to learn our actual history did they learn any different.
Native Americans are now one of the most discriminated against groups in America.
The MAGA crowd wants to go back to a nebulous time when they think America 'was great.' When was that? During the 50's when Amos and Andy was a popular TV show?

LOL DeSantis is opening the door to clogging the Florida courts with complaints because this law cuts both ways. Let's be honest: Florida has more Euro-American racists than any other flavor. All it takes is some offhand remark about "lazy", "welfare queens" or "Muslim" and the business is toast.
I predict this law will change before 2024 because the courts will be flooded by complaints about racist Floridian Trump-voters.

Yes, it is quite remarkable. The law virtually makes it illegal to teach that racism exists. Let's break it down to the essence of what is so objectionable. Removing the modifiers, let's look at the base sentence that is wrong:

It is attempting to control what people teach or say. In this case, it makes it illegal to even say that white America is oppressing black America.
The fact that it is true doesn't even matter.
This law is a direct violation of the First Amendment.

Kids need to toughen up. They're too pussified these days. Too much coddling. I blame Dr. Spock. Not his method, but that extremes to which it was taken by the public. Our nation seems to have gone from the extreme of too much Rod to sparing the Rod completely. That's not what Dr. Spock advised.
