Republican CRT Book Burning 2.0: Can't Teach Feel-Bad History

This is anti-woke government control of your life.

Woke people don't want the government controlling what people think or know.

So, do you think that The 1619 Project or a book like Zinn's A People's History of the United States should be used as a textbook for teaching K-12 history?

How out-of-touch can you be? If 'nobody wants' it then why do you need to make a law against it? Hunh?

What BS.

Obviously lots of people want our full history to be very well known or you would feel the need to try to make laws against teaching our real history.

People WANT schools to teach all the history, even the parts that might make some people uncomfortable. What kind of history only covers feel-good history? There happens to be a lot of history that is not feel-good history.

this must be the reason why all of those confederate statues and memorials were removed from public view and that some groups of the 'woke' even wanted Lincoln and Washington removed from the annals of history, right?

Book burning to suppress the truth is not less than pure fascism.

They're Burning Books in Tennessee

Last week, McMinn County made news when the school board voted to ban beloved graphic novel Maus — a Holocaust story told with anthropomorphic mice and cats — due to instances of swear words and nudity. While the vote happened in early January, it went viral following a report from TN Holler.

Last night, Mt. Juliet pastor and pro-Trump conspiracy theorist Greg Locke decided to turn it up a notch by organizing an old-fashioned book burning. The books included millennial staples like Harry Potter and Twilight — hits of the early Aughts that were targeted by Christian book burnings back in the day.

In a sermon preceding the bonfire, Locke described beefing with "Free Mason devils" and said "I ain't gonna be 'suiciding myself' no time soon." Locke also said people aren't mad that they were burning books, but mad because of the books they were burning — implying that his critics, even other pastors, were devil and witchcraft supporters.

Demographics aren't on you side
Your kind have been fighting losing battles for years from civil rights and now to voting rights

Maybe, but your side will end with both of us destitute and in chains. At least I'm trying to stop that while you are encouraging it...

""Nobody wants this crap, OK? This is an elite-driven phenomenon being driven by bureaucratic elites, elites in universities and elites in corporate America and they’re trying to shove it down the throats of the American people. You’re not doing that in the state of Florida,” DeSantis said at an event in Wildwood, Florida, in December 2021."

BS, and shame on you Gov DeSantis!

""A great public school education also helps students prepare for their future by encouraging curiosity and critical thinking through art and music, math and science, and history and literature," NEA president Becky Pringle said in a statement. "But now some politicians not only in Florida but elsewhere around the country want to limit what history our kids can learn about and what books they can read."

"According to the bill, an individual shouldn't be made to "feel discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress on account of his or her race, color, sex, or national origin."

The language mirrors many of the bills that have been introduced in roughly 32 states across the country that attempt to limit or restrict the teaching and discussion of racial history in the U.S."

Florida doubles down on anti-critical race theory legislation

This is just hateful dog-whistle nonsense. What a shameful populist. What a waste of the good education YOU got, Ron DeSantis!

Conservatives used to burn books to limit knowledge they didn't want people to know. Well, the world has moved beyond storing knowledge in books. Now it's virtual. Burning books won't prevent learning things. So Republicans have resorted to unconstitutional attempts to limit the free speech of teachers.

I hope all these new anti-woke laws get totally tossed out. This is just ridiculous.

They are copying some of the same political correctness they attack. It is similar to college hate speech codes that ban speech or actions which are offensive or course requirements that students warn before making any "triggering" statements that might offend others. Or, requiring "safe places" where students are safe from offensive messages.

Now we've got political correctness from the right.

An astute observation. I concur.

There has long been a tendency to white-wash history. School children of the 50's and 60's were taught that Native Americans were savages. That was reinforced in the white-washed Hollywood movies. Only after people grew up and if they took it upon themselves to learn our actual history did they learn any different.

Native Americans are now one of the most discriminated against groups in America.

The MAGA crowd wants to go back to a nebulous time when they think America 'was great.' When was that? During the 50's when Amos and Andy was a popular TV show?

And it's not just schools.

This law limits businesses from teaching our real history as well!

This is straight up first amendment stuff.

"Congress shall make no law .. abridging the freedom of speech ... "

LOL DeSantis is opening the door to clogging the Florida courts with complaints because this law cuts both ways. Let's be honest: Florida has more Euro-American racists than any other flavor. All it takes is some offhand remark about "lazy", "welfare queens" or "Muslim" and the business is toast. :rofl2:

I predict this law will change before 2024 because the courts will be flooded by complaints about racist Floridian Trump-voters.

According to the bill, an individual shouldn't be made to "feel discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress on account of his or her race, color, sex, or national origin."...

...The Florida bill also states that educators or businesses cannot teach that "one race, religion, ethnicity, or sex is inherently superior to another race, religion, ethnicity, or sex; an individual, by virtue, the individual's race, religion, ethnicity, or sex, is inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive, whether consciously or unconsciously."

Yes, it is quite remarkable. The law virtually makes it illegal to teach that racism exists. Let's break it down to the essence of what is so objectionable. Removing the modifiers, let's look at the base sentence that is wrong:

... educators or businesses cannot teach that "one race ... is ... oppressive ... ."

It is attempting to control what people teach or say. In this case, it makes it illegal to even say that white America is oppressing black America.

The fact that it is true doesn't even matter.

This law is a direct violation of the First Amendment.

"Shall make no law ... abridging the freedom of speech."

Definition of abridge

"transitive verb
1 : to shorten by omission of words without sacrifice of sense : condense abridge a novel an abridged dictionary
2 : to shorten in duration or extent Tess wished to abridge her visit as much as possible …— Thomas Hardy
3 formal : to reduce in scope : diminish attempts to abridge the right of free speech
4 archaic : deprive"

Real history does not include separating first graders by “oppressed” and “oppressors.”

CRT cost the Democrats the state of Virginia.

That and having the FBI intimidate parents and listing them as domestic terrorists because they wanted to have input into their children’s education.

these fools won't learn.

get woke go broke.

The social media platforms routinely ban conservatives...not one peep from the far left Democrat Socialist loons.

you just can't racially and culturally shame children.

you can present facts. just no segregation, and no oppressor/oppression roleplaying.

All reasons why this is going to clog the Floridian courts. Unnecessary bullshit wasting taxpayer dollars because of political extremists.

Hello Dutch,

We wouldn't want anybody to feel bad to learn that their race is oppressive...

or are losers after 1865. ;)

Kids need to toughen up. They're too pussified these days. Too much coddling. I blame Dr. Spock. Not his method, but that extremes to which it was taken by the public. Our nation seems to have gone from the extreme of too much Rod to sparing the Rod completely. That's not what Dr. Spock advised.

When Dr. Spock’s book Baby and Child Care was published in 1946, its simple core message was revolutionary: “Don’t be afraid to trust your own common sense.” Between that and his insistence that parents should show love and affection to their children rather than constant strict discipline, Dr. Spock challenged the conventional wisdom of early 20th-century childrearing like no one else.

Yes. white kids need to be beaten while being told they're responsible for evil.
