Remember when "jobs saved" was a phony stat?

I sure do. It was constantly assailed by those on the right as a CBO fabrication when it was used for #'s on the jobs front when it came to Obama's stimulus.

Now, we're hearing about it every day from that side. Trump can't stop talking (lying) about it - the hundreds & hundreds of jobs that he himself has "saved" at Ford and Carrier, among others. And, naturally, his followers are quick to parrot it.

I think "jobs saved" is going to be a much bigger deal for that crew in the next 4 years. We'll hear about that one a lot.

It's a sad state for our economy and its future when "jobs saved" becomes an argued metric.

It shouldn't be an argued metric. It's a real stat, and always has been. If the gov't or President or whoever can do something to save a job that would have been lost, that's as solid & credible & praiseworthy as creating a new one.

I don't remember this at all. I think this is more prog bullshit.

Capitalism and free markets have always been about creative destruction. For example I don't want the gov't to stop Uber and then 'brag' about saving a taxi drivers job.

Were any of us expecting anything else out of the gutter trash right and their typical gutter politics?

Slump and his supporters have completely obliterated any expectations of honesty out of him, them or anyone in his administration.

Get ready for four years of solid, constant lies and revisionism.

Most of the jobs saved under the stimulus were at schools; they weren't tied to increased regulation or shutting someone else out.

Excellent contribution to the topic. Thank you for that.

By that measure everytime we pass a budget a politician could claim to save all teachers jobs.

even while we were losing jobs?.....

there's a diffence between saying "we'd have lost tens of thousands more jobs if Obama hadn't done what he did" and Carrier saying "okay, after talking to Trump we've decided not to move these 1000 jobs to Mexico"........

Most of the jobs saved under the stimulus were at schools; they weren't tied to increased regulation or shutting someone else out.

oh, you mean those jobs that were lost the SECOND year because there wasn't any stimulus then......or wait......did he count them as jobs saved the first year, then give them money for a second year, count them as jobs saved again, then watch them all get fired the third year.......

By that measure everytime we pass a budget a politician could claim to save all teachers jobs.

Look - it's a CBO stat. They kept track of where the stimulus money went, and exactly where it created jobs, and where it prevented layoffs.

It really couldn't be more specific.
