Reid's Plan a Failure

The House voted around 3 p.m. to reject a plan put forth by Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.). The vote was on Reid’s original plan, not the re-worked version he presented in the Senate on Friday night. But the revised plan was faring no better Saturday, when Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) delivered a letter Reid, signed by 43 Republicans, declaring it unacceptable.

Needing 60 votes to clear a filibuster hurdle, Reid’s current draft is assured of failure in a Senate scheduled for 1 a.m. Sunday. McConnell has demanded that President Obama re-engage in negotiations and, while the rhetoric has become heated on the Senate floor, an aide confirmed that McConnell had made contact with the White House. As of 2 p.m., no formal meetings had been scheduled, but people close to the situation advised reporters to stay tuned.

Is Senator Reid engaging in grandstanding? Wasting time?

Why did Boehner's plan get so much flak from liberals when Reid's plan was the same failure? Are democrats ashamed they have no ideas, no power and are the party of no?

You'd think, with the world on the brink of a massive fuck-off recession (mark II) Democrats and Republicans would stop fucking about and just pass something which prevents some economic meltdown.

However, it's going to keep going right up until the Tuesday deadline isn't it?

That's what i admire about politicians - their ability to see the big picture.

They care more about their reputation and reelection chances. I think some who honestly think they were sent to Washington with an agenda. The Tea Party representatives ran on a platform, were elected on that platform and by and large have stuck to that platform. I think if they were to now talk to their constituents now they would likely realize that most Americans want a compromise, and cuts in spending. Both parties are not really compromising. The left blames the right for grandstanding and passing bills that will fail, and then the left turns around and does the same thing. Both sides need to give in more. President Obama is not helping the matter, his lack of leadership here is telling. All I have seen is him mouthing off juvenile insults to the right. Reagan would not do that in this situation.

The only real difference between the Reid and Boehner plans was that the Reid plan avoid a vote on the debt limit until after Obama's election. Boehner's plan doesn't, so he gets to have a little political theater again in six months, once again using the apocalypse as a bargaining chip to establish his political goals while Democrats take him seriously. He gets to waste a lot of time coming up with a budget, and then waste a great deal more time approving the debt that he already approved when he made that budget. Man our political system is great.

Obama shouldn't negotiate with terrorists. The debt ceiling is not a bargaining chip.

Gee brownmark....maybe its those Jews in Washington screwing it up.....from JEWMERICA....remember those guys ?

So Reid is grandstanding and wasting our time. Why are the democrats afraid to have a vote before the next election that President Obama might win? That proves what I said, they care more about their reelection.

Dead on arrival in the Senate.

The Senate, after voting against House Republicans' proposal Friday night, effectively killed Democratic Leader Harry Reid's counterproposal Sunday afternoon. Sixty votes were required to advance the proposal, and it fell far short in a 50-49 roll call. While the test vote was expected to fail, the outcome stressed how important it is for the latest round of talks to produce a viable alternative.

Is this a waste of time and grandstanding like Boehner's plan?

Stop being an idiot. The world doesn't end if the US government is forced to only spend what it takes in.

I do not recall. Do you have anything to say about the thread topic? I believe you were critical of Boehner's grandstanding. I apologize if I have that wrong.

You did post; you defended him, and said that at least he was presenting ideas.

I think both guys were grandstanding, at a time of crisis, and both were shameful in doing so.

Ok. Do you have a point? I've been told you do actually debate, but I have yet to see anything from you. Seems as if you were just out to get me for something I said, rather than contribute to the thread.

It's disingenuous to point out that the left isn't calling out Reid, when you didn't call out Boehner for the exact same thing, just days earlier.

So you didn't want to contribute, you just wanted to come after me. It is not disingenuous at all on my part. Did I criticize Reid? Did I call Reid out? No. Apparently the others are correct about you, you go after the poster instead of the topic. It is disingenuous of the left to call out Boehner and not Reid.

Why was Boehner's grandstanding presented along the lines of "at least he has ideas," and Democrats have "no ideas" for doing the same thing?

It's too transparent. You sure aren't fooling me.

Did I say the democrats have no ideas in this thread? I said that before this plan. You're now switching what your accused me of to something else. You're too transparent and aren't fooling anyone. When you realized your mistake, instead of apologizing, you make a new accusation and you don't talk at all about how the left is disingenuous, thus proving you are the disingenuous one. If all you have are attacks, try ones that make sense and are correct instead of falsely accusing people of things they are not guilty of. Are you going to apologize for being wrong?
