More proof of the absolute insanity of the Climatistas, apparently desperate to cause lower temps, which are disastrous.

Cold kills far more people/life than warmth ever has. Warmer temps = more arable land, as well.

Geologists reveal what caused the 57-million-year freezing on Earth

Australian geologists have solved the mystery of what triggered and sustained an extreme ice age that gripped the Earth more than 700 million years ago. The study, published in the journal Geology, reveals how the Earth's thermostat works and how sensitive the climate is to changes in atmospheric carbon dioxide.

The researchers used plate tectonic models to simulate the evolution of the Earth's surface and carbon dioxide emission from underwater volcanoes. They found that the onset of the ice age coincided with a period of very low volcanic activity, which reduced the amount of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere.

They also discovered that a large volcanic province in Canada formed before the ice age was eroded by glaciers and rain, further lowering carbon dioxide levels by absorbing it from the air.

The study's lead author, Dr. Adriana Dutkiewicz from the University of Sydney, said: "Imagine the Earth almost completely frozen over. That's just what happened about 700 million years ago; the planet was covered in ice from the poles to the equator, and temperatures dropped. We now think we have cracked the mystery: it was caused by historically low volcanic carbon dioxide emissions, aided by weathering of a large pile of volcanic rocks in Canada."

The ice age, also known as the Sturtian glaciation, lasted 57 million years, from 717 to 660 million years ago. This was a time before dinosaurs and complex plants existed on land, and the only life forms were simple microbes.

Dr. Dutkiewicz said: "Various causes have been proposed for the start and the end of this extreme ice age, but the most puzzling aspect is why it lasted so long - a time span hard for us humans to comprehend."

The team used the EarthByte computer models to explore the ice age's cause and duration. They found that the volcanic carbon dioxide emissions remained low throughout the ice age, preventing the Earth from warming.

lowering co2 is also an attack on plant life and human food crops.

the green freak nazis want billions to starve.

Not even remotely close to being an analogy for what could happen today.

The continents 800 million years ago were not extensively covered in trees, grasses, and animals. A large percentage of CO[sub]2[/sub] emissions today come from biological respiration and decaying vegetation. Sources of atmospheric CO[sub]2[/sub] 800 million years ago were primarily geologic. There wasn't the biological regulation of carbon dioxide that the Earth has now.

The author in the article also admits the processes he is talking about are geologic in nature. It would take millions of years for the planet to transition to another snowball Earth condition, if ever.

You got that reversed. Heat kills far more people than cold. Cold can be managed. Heat is a lot harder to manage.

Actually, it depends on who you ask. The NOAA says heat, while the CDC says cold. The Lancet medical journal in the UK says cold by a factor of about 15 times.

Cold weather kills far more people than hot weather

On the whole, I'd side with cold being far more dangerous. High temperatures are more easily dealt with than cold. Shade, cooling, hydration, are all much easier to accomplish than staying warm in cold climates.

Heat, especially when it dries land, tends to burn crops.

That is a simpleton's view. Crops do well when they are managed in terms of expected temperatures, sun exposure, and available soil moisture. On the other hand, freezing weather tends to kill off just about any crop. This is why you can generally grow crops in a hot desert, but not in an arctic tundra.

There's some idiots for you... I live in Phoenix and a 5 day heat wave with a blackout wouldn't be that big a deal. First, getting a blackout here that lasted that long would be difficult, but beyond that, people here know how to deal with heat. Aside from that, Aryn Braun, the author of that article is a Left Coast Progressive Leftist who's a True Believer in Gorebal Warming based out of LA. Her education is in journalism and she knows nothing about engineering, science, or health issues.

Phoenix regularly has stretches of 110 + (43+ C) weather. Those sorts of numbers are never approached and, no, people don't live 24/7 indoors in air conditioning dealing with it.

Here's the original article she cited:

https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs.est.2c09588

The article is extremely theoretical in its methodology. For instance, one of their attempts to use some real-world data involves homeless in Phoenix and deaths due to heat. The homeless represent a poor sample as they are generally poorly educated, have health issues related to things like drug use, and are ill-equipped to find alternatives to dealing with heat.

The science acuity of trumpanzees is perfectly consistent with the capacity of their micro-brains.

This doesn't deter them from sharing their "profound" insights, however,
and this may be the very reason why the internet was invented.
