For liability reasons and to not clog chargers and likely because of law I think a driver must be on duty (that is not asleep) during recharging. I am not an expert in this subject but I suspect that is a big negative for both the firm and the drivers.

There is also, of course, the danger of fire during charging, intense enough to destroy not only the truck, but the ALL the trucks charging, AND the charging station as well. Being a class C fire, there is no putting it out with water! Not even professional pryotechnicians get to see fireworks THAT intense very often! Not unless their magazine explodes!

Its the difference between being able to run a rig 23 hours out of 24 and only about 20 if the tweet in this thread is correct.

It's academic. EV semi cabs are day cabs only. They have no sleepers in them. This puts them entirely out any use for team hauling or even OTR hauling.

Insurance would be a killer. EVs have much higher insurance rates than diesel or gasoline engines vehicles. The reason is two-fold: the cost of the vehicle (MUCH higher for the EV!) and the risk of fire (MUCH higher than for an ICE vehicle!). The actuary speaks for itself.

It's class D not C. It isn't an electrical fire but rather one of burning metal and rare earths that spontaneously combust in the presence of water.

You know, that boils down to an average of 455 miles per day per vehicle... Not very impressive. Long haul team drivers regularly do over 900 miles a day in diesel trucks, or about double that of what these Teslas are doing.

This article is about how far the Tesla truck has come from a zero starting point a few years back and this advancement is amazing. A successful fleet of such trucks would be able to utilize roads for the most dangerous, over night driving without having drivers fall asleep. They will also be far less accident prone.

How much gasoline do they need to service that same amount trucks?


Charging a large number of EV Trucks, each in the yard in their own parking spot, rather then having them line up for a limited number of gas pumps, will be far more convenient.

In some very busy truck stops, trucks can line up for well over an hour to get to gasoline pump, then they go park and go in to take a break, get food, and shower and clean up. IN an EV yard the place you park your Truck is the place you charge it. So instead of wasting time waiting for fuel (gas) in a line, and then going to park and go in after, you are using the down time of eating, etc, while ALSO getting your fuel (charging).

But as this tech improves you will see the Trucking industry and those who service it quickly adapt, as truck drivers are very much the limiting factors on trucking companies. the cost, the accidents, the turn over. Trucking companies will jump at this.

Wrong. EV's bad to use your terminology. Gas vehicles less bad. Battery technology has serious limitations on it no matter what incremental improvements may be made to it. And, that's all new battery technology is, incremental improvements. There isn't going to be some sudden seismic shift in battery technology because you can't get around physics and chemistry.

Why bother with EV's at all? What reason(s) are they being pushed out so hard by primarily the radical Left?
