You're repeating yourself. So again, The Constitution is as secular as a founding document could be. The one and only provision on religion not only provides no protection for Christianity it precludes the faith from ever receiving special governmental protection. As for the Founders themselves, not all were even Christians, several being Deists.
If you were to read every formal document that was ever written by the foremost Founding Fathers: Thomas Jefferson; Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, John Adams, Alexander Hamilton ,and George Mason, for instance, you will not find one instance of the words, "Christianity" or "Christian" being used..
Rather, a Christian person was referred to as being a "religious" person, in the Revolutionary era.
Anyway, let's start at very beginning of the Founding of America, shall we?...
It was is "Declaration of Independence" on the 4th July, 1776, that remains the core document at the very heart of the American system of government.
The "Declaration" of 1776, set a train of events in motion that led to the American Revolutionary War, the independence of the United States, and the establishment of an unbelievably effective system of Government.
The essential/fundamental tenets of the "Declaration" are decidedly Christian. No one denies this This is because their author, Thomas Jefferson, took them - more or less - "verbatim" from the political philosophy of John Locke; specifically from Locke's classic text, "Second Treatise on Government," which was first published in 1689.
NO ONE denies this, Martin. Seventy years after Locke's death in 1704, the foremost of the Founding Fathers were totally smitten by his "Second Treatise on Government." They were Lockian disciples, and they were fully aware of the fact that, John Locke, was a devout, almost Puritanical, English, Christian Protestant.
So, Martin, allow me to be your teacher, because I am afraid you have no valid understanding of your own country's founding.
Let's start with the most famous quotation in the
"Declaration."....
"We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal, that they are all endowed by their CREATOR with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are: Life; Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" (Jefferson changed Locke's original: Life; Liberty and Property/Estate, by substituting the "Pursuit of Happiness" for "(Personal) Property/Estate". He should have stuck with Locke's original three Rights).
So, Martin when we unpack this statement, shall we ? it is clear that the major Founding Fathers believed that all humans have a CREATOR; namely , John Locke's Biblical GOD They acknowledged that human life came from Locke's Biblical/Christian GOD. Moreover, the "Declaration" accepts that God Himself created humans and gave them certain Rights - to Life, Liberty and Personal Property ("the Pursuit of Happiness") - which cannot be taken away by the State.
Without the "Declaration", the US Constitution / Bill of Rights" would never have existed. This is because the "Declaration" was the critical foundation it was built upon. If you insist that the Constitution/Bill of Rights was as secular as a founding document could be, then logically, the "Declaration" was also "as secular as a founding document could be. Right ? But my dictionary defines the term , SECULAR, as meaning: NOT CONNECTED WITH ANY RELIGIOUS OR SIRITUAL MATTERS." So how do you account for the fact that the "Declaration" is obviously based on Judeo-Christian morality and the existence of a BIBLICAL GOD ? EVERYTHING John Locke wrote on the subject of political philosophy was derived from one source - Holy Scripture. If ever he came to a conclusion in his political theory that was not consistent with Scripture he automatically rejected it. Locke was an adherent of the doctrine of "Sola Scripture" which meant he believed the truths and wisdom set forth in the Bible, were the inspired revealtion of GOD and therefore absolutely infallible.
You will no doubt object and say Dachshund, lets look at the core principles of Government that are set down in the "US Constitution/Bill of Rights. These incluude: Federalism; Republicanism; INDIVIDUAL Rights; the doctrine of the "Separation of Powers" (Executive, Legislative and Judicial); the notion of "Checks and Balances"; Limited Republican Government; Government by Consent of the People/Popular Sovereignty ("WE THE PEOPLE..."; the provision of "Judicial Review , "Self-Government and such like. Right, Martin ?
Then you'll say these principles upon which the Constitution was written, sure look pretty Damn secular to me, Dachshund ! I don't see anything at all of substance in the Constitution that is explicitly to do with God or the Bible, or with Judeo - Christian morality/ spirituality ?
That's beause the deep inner source of the principles of the Constitution cannot be understood by a superficial reading of the document. Imagine there is a healthy orange tree that has many oranges growing on its branches. The oranges would not be there unless the wooden trunk and branches of orange tree were there before them, and this tree only grew in the first place because it was rooted in good, fertile soil.
Imagine that the oranges on this treet are like the principle of Government that appear in the Constitution, while the roots, trunk and branches of the tree represent the "Declaration" and the rich soil that allowed the tree to grow is, God, the creator of all Humans.
So, you are out walking in nature and you see this orange tree is laden with fruit. You LOVE oranges, so you think , "COOL !!", and pluch off six oranges and put them in your back-pack. to eat when you get home. These oranges don't seem to be anything like the wood of three nor the fertile soil in which the tree has grown. Right ? But you would not have your oranges without the source, which is the earth in which your orange tree was founded.
I could probably provide you with a much better argument as to why America had a Christian Founding, but it's past my bed-time and I need to hit the hay right now
