Ratings agencies downgrade UK credit rating after Brexit vote

The UK has lost its top AAA credit rating from ratings agency S&P following the country's Brexit vote.

S&P said the the referendum result could lead to "a deterioration of the UK's economic performance, including its large financial services sector".

Rival agency Fitch lowered its rating from AA+ to AA, forecasting an "abrupt slowdown" in growth in the short-term.

The moves come after Chancellor George Osborne said the UK will face the future "from a position of strength".

Speaking earlier, in an attempt to restore calm to the markets, the chancellor said the economy would need to "adjust" but was strong enough to cope.

S&P had been the only major agency to maintain a AAA rating for the UK. It has now cut its rating by two notches to AA.

On Friday, Moody's cut the UK's credit rating outlook to negative.

A rating downgrade can affect how much it costs governments to borrow money in the international financial markets. In theory, a high credit rating means a lower interest rate (and vice versa).

S&P said that the leave result would "weaken the predictability, stability, and effectiveness of policymaking in the UK".

As England was the cornerstone for the EU I anticipate a complete dissolution of it. But it should be noted that now Scotland is insisting on it's own seat at the EU table and is threatening to leave the British Empire to achieve that goal. Very interesting.

Scotland is all piss and wind, the EU don't want them. That was made very clear yesterday when Nicola Sturgeon was snubbed by Donald Tusk.

The UK was far from the cornerstone for the EU, they hardly even participated in any of its functions. Germany is the cornerstone of the EU.

Well he probably doesn't care because all of his spiteful posts on this "the young voters? FUCK EM!" "the Scots? FUCK EM!", certainly indicate he only cares about himself and nursing his many grudges. He seems to nurse them against absolutely everyone, and against every country. (Except of course, Thailand) . So in his myopic view it is probably "the bank workers? FUCK EM!".

Because he is exactly the kind of moron who believes there will be no domino effect and only people who work for these banks will lose their jobs

Of course, he's in for a big honking surprise. Few deserve it more.

Just like the LEFT dismissed THE S&P when the US credit rating was lowered not once but twice because of the failures of the Obama Administration? What? Memory loss....or just another REVERSE SPIN movement...assuming that THE PEOPLE can't remember or document history actual just a few years removed? Popcorn? I enjoy the propaganda and spin. July 11, Aug. 05, 2011 does not ring any bells? According to your cohorts spinning....the S&P downgrade did not mean a thing as the Obama Economy turned out to be the best thing since sliced bread.

Today's liberal word

P A R A D O X I C A L

I always call....BULLSHIT when its obvious.

You've missed the point. Sturgeon has laid down her marker. That's all it was about.
The EU's anti-English members have noted her request and will remember it when your Boris Bandwagon hits the buffers.

When will that be, incidentally ? How long can your Tories stretch out their ' Goodbye ' ?
