Rand Paul Remarks Lead KY Legislature to Pass CR Resolution

Looks like the largely Republican KY legislature didn't consider Paul's remarks to be simply philosophical musings.

(AP) - The Kentucky Senate, reacting to a divisive comment by Republican Rand Paul, has adopted a resolution declaring any form of discrimination to be inconsistent with American values.

Louisville Democratic Sen. Gerald Neal introduced the resolution Friday during a special session on the state budget. It was adopted without objection in the predominantly Republican chamber.

Neal, Kentucky's only black state senator, said he took personal offense at the comment made last week by Paul, a U.S. Senate candidate, who was criticizing the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Paul said in an MSNBC interview that the federal government shouldn't have the power to force restaurants to serve minorities if business owners don't want to.

Neal said Paul's "extreme belief" has made Kentucky "a laughingstock."

I didn't find anything bad with what Rand said.

The Marxist fear constitutionalist like Rand. He'd support repealing the 16th amendment amoung other things which is mostly responsible for the problems we have today.

Obviously the legislature did, since they worked so fast on damage control.

Speaking the truth and doing the right thing do not often equate to political expediency. Just look to your own posts on this matter for examples.

Presumably you're not saying that Paul spoke the truth and did the right thing.

I've never pretended to be anything but a liberal, a liberal who despises even the suggestion of racism and bigotry.

He'd support repeal of the 16th and 17th likely, and a revision of the 14th section 1 specifically....

As well as liberty and individualism. You shouldn't speak so negatively about yourself. "I've never pretended to be anything but a liberal" could well easily be followed with a plea for help such as "a liberal who wants to kill herself and has a plan to do so." Don't worry though, we care enough about you to intervene.

Conservatism is responsible for all the problems we have today. Eliminate conservatives and we will have a millenia of peace.

You mean "differences".

If everybody thought the exact same way we'd have "peace"... We'd also have a different specie.

Nice Troll, BTW.

You and I have the freedom and liberty to do whatever we want, as long as we're willing to answer for the consequences of our actions. Being a libertarian isn't going to change that.

If I was so concerned about that my "individualism" was in danger, I'd pull a Kaczynski and move out of society. I think *some* libertarians magnify problems while ignoring those facets of the government that benefit them.

If their are legal consequences for out actions, you know very well that there must be a distinct lack of freedom and liberty.

For example, if I get ticketed for talking on my cellphone while driving, something will have been sorely missing there...

Are you seriously equating getting a ticket with a loss of freedom?

Yep. Or did you just mean only certain freedoms constitute liberty? For the record, I've never been ticketed for my cellphone, I don't smoke (smoking bans), or engage in a whole host of activities that are banned, such as elicit drugs, but I still recognize the laws that prohibit and regulate as illiberal and un-American.

"any form of discrimination"? Are we to take that literally such as when real estate brokers market a house claiming it appeals to the 'discriminating buyer' someone has broken the law?

Kind of ironic this law in Kentucky. Ask Louisville and Kentucky fans how they feel about each other. Try walking around Lexington with a UL shirt on and see what type of discrimination exists.

yes.....the attention you should have been devoting to driving....

And yet I drive better than all the morons who pass these laws, so maybe we should just revoke their licenses altogether. I'm not comfortable doing the sexting while driving gig, which lets me know my skills could be better, but my cellphone does not make it any harder to focus on the obvious that is the road around me than does a 32 oz. Mt. Few, a sandwich, a womans head sucking away at my sperm, or any other prop I may happen to hold while driving...
