Nah, they planned on this being the last resort if they had no other option. The push now is to get people who hate the bill to vote for it so they can use reconciliation to summarily change it in the Senate.so there is no stopping it?
Can anyone explain how that is done? Im not up to par on the legality and process of this? Id assumed that this healthcare bill was dead as the majority of Americans don't want it but just heard over the weekend pelosi is going to try to force it.
Let them. It will be the death of the Democratic party.
Yes, Republicans vehemently oppose the passage of the bill that will be the death of the Democratic Party. That makes total sense.
Anybody can see it would be difficult to unwind it without either an R President or supermajorities. Nobody believes that Rs will get a supermajority in the Congress. Bad legislation is still bad legislation when you can't unwind it.

The 'Rats called this the "nuclear option" when the GOP threatened to use it during the Bush Administration. Now it has a nice-sounding name.
What it will do though is effectively eliminate the Senate filibuster, hence make voting this thing out much easier after Obama's retired on January 20, 2013...
yes, it does make sense, because the Reps know that once these unfunded government hand outs become law, they are nearly impossible to get rid of.
The 'Rats are hoping that folks will become beholden to them for this new "freedom from responsibility", just like Social Security, ensuring them a dependable voting bloc for generations. This strategy has been effective in the past and so many believe that it will be effective in the future.Let them. It will be the death of the Democratic party.

If the Rs could be assured of that I am sure they would be thrilled with its passage. One way it may be more likely is the fact that nobody will see any benefit from it until after the next Presidential election. So taxes will be collected and they'll see no benefit. It's interesting they didn't front-load this like FDR did with social security. He knew that benefit would make it popular and ensured that people would begin to see benefit right away. Obama, and the Ds, have not done this.Well, "Death of the Democratic Party" suggests that the Republicans would be able to take back Congress and the presidency in 2012 at which point they could certainly undo it all and pass what they prefer instead.
Maybe "death" has a different meaning than the one I am accustomed to using.
They are basically the same thing, changing the rules during the middle of the game. When was "reconciliation" use for other than simple budget issues?Reconciliation is not the "nuclear option."
You're quite a natural at lying. Nice work, SM.
