Question for the mask experts

So who is advocating wearing masks while doing "strenuous work"? Mr. Owl's gym just reopened; they do not require masks.

See, you start with a fallacy and then just double down on it. If wearing a mask for hours was dangerous, surgeons would be dropping like flies on their patients. So would store employees. Stop promoting stupidity. Thanks.

Mr. Owls gym could be a high risk environment if it’s real crowded.

I’m promoting physiological facts, but I appreciate your concern.

I have that moron on ignore. Is he actually claiming that wearing a home-made fabric or consumer-grade mask will increase the CO2 level in your blood? I'm just shocked that the people I see in stores -- as well as the medical professionals I worked with in my career -- aren't dropping like flies. lol

Actually, it does. Anything that restricts breathing (including cloth or N95 masks) will raise the CO2 level in the blood. It does not cause people to drop dead, since there is an allowable range of CO2 levels in the blood without any ill effect.

He's trying some crazed argument about global warming because we breathe CO2 wearing our masks. Well, that's what I got from the discussion preview anyway.

I thought it was hilarious. The same idiots that believe in the Church of Global Warming and the harmful magickal effects of CO2 suddenly have no problem with the stuff increasing in their bloodstream due to the use of masks!

Then present the facts correctly and stop using them to excuse being a selfish knucklehead. Thanks.

You are correct about the gym. He's only gone once so far, and was the only customer. I'm trusting him to have the sense to skip it if there are other ppl in the weights area.

Tragic. Well, not really. Just so you don't bother anymore, a reminder:

This message is hidden because Into the Night is on your ignore list.

And for that reason, whatever benefits public mask use provide, they are mitigated by improper use.

I see it virtually everywhere I go. One of the reasons I don’t wear one is because ‘not touching my mask’ is just one more thing to think about when I walk into the store or whatever.

Besides, stores, restaurants and etc are low risk environments. Studies have shown the greatest risk is in compact crowds—coupled with, significant time.

Avoid subways, crowded bars, crowds of lefty loons and etc, and the mask is basically a security blanket. Or ‘showing people that you care’ or whatever.

I consider it's use by these people as a 'good luck' charm, and yet another statement of 'better than you' that is literally in your face.

Dr. Darth, why not give it a rest for a bit. You're at odds with almost the entire medical and healthcare community at this point.
Bigotry. You don't get to speak for the entire medical and healthcare community. You only get to speak for you.
"Improper use" - do you think that maybe they have determined that less is spread through touching, and that even with poor handling masks stop those pesky respiratory droplets more effectively?

Masks do not stop viruses. See the N95 specifications.

You’ve already proven how stupid you are, and you continue to prove it by not wearing a mask. Your lack of care for your fellow human is on full display.

Masks do not stop viruses. See the N95 specifications. You cannot assign 'lack of care of fellow human beings' to justify wearing a useless mask. If you want to look like a hypochondriac dork, fine.

And now you see why Trump saying cleaning supplies and neon lights is effective in addressing COVID is believed on the right

Cleaning supplies and UV lights ARE effective against Covid. Fluorescent lights do put out UV. They put out more if you don't have the white powder inside them (which converts that energy to produce more visible light).
Trump never talked about neon lights.

Well done. :good4u:

I made a boat load of masks a few months ago. They're all washable and go into the sink when we get home, and hung out in the sun to dry. Now that commercially-made ones are finally available again, have some on order from Amazon that are disposable.

Most people out there are you like and me and take sensible precautions. It's the ones who don't who are the problem rather than the solution.

There is no problem. Masks do not stop viruses. The infection rate of Covid-19 is less than 1% of the population, and masks won't protect you from it.

Fallacy fallacy. His argument is sound. He never said wearing a mask in and of itself is dangerous. Stop putting words in people's mouths.

And some of us prefer to select our own produce, meats, and seafood. That's where the anti-maskers who call us "scared" and "sheeple" are so wrong.
Non-sequitur fallacy. Strawman fallacy.
We're not afraid. We are careful, and we care enough about our fellow human beings that we want to protect them by taking sensible precautions, like wearing a mask.
Hypochondria. Elitism. Masks do not stop viruses. See the N95 specifications.
