What I have heard some candidates say is we better start making changes now, because in 12 years or so, it may be too late to turn things back!

Carbon dioxide just isn’t a climatologically important constituent of the atmosphere no matter how desperately they try and make it one. Carbon dioxide IS biologically important though: life couldn’t exist without it.

Science isn't training. Science isn't a university degree. Science isn't a research or a study. It does not use peer review. There is no elite voting bloc in science. Science isn't a magazine or a journal. Climate is a subjective word. It is unquantifiable. I don't need to read a blog to know that.

You simply choose to ignore the 1st and 2nd laws of thermodynamics and the Stefan-Boltzmann law. You deny science.

No. Blankets REDUCE convection and conduction. You cannot slow or trap heat. A perfect insulator (if you could ever find one) means heat is zero. A box made of this perfect insulator means the inside of the box cannot be heated (heat is zero) and it cannot be cooled (heat is zero). The inside of that box will be whatever temperature it was when you closed the box...forever.

And I'm guessing Into the Night prefers the technically correct terms "reflect" or "radiate" over "trap". He likes to be precise.

I am not suggesting it all. I am saying it, plain and simple. There is no such thing as a 'greenhouse' gas.

To raise the temperature of the Earth, additional energy is needed.

* No gas or vapor is a source of energy.
* The output of the Sun hasn't changed appreciably.
* You can't make energy out of nothing.
* It is not possible to slow or trap heat.
* It is not possible to trap thermal energy. There is always heat.
* It is not possible to trap light.
* It is not possible to reduce the radiance of Earth (by limiting the escape of infrared light) and increase its energy at the same time.

No gas or vapor in the atmosphere acts like a Magick Blanket. Heat to and from space is by radiance, not by conduction or convection. The ONLY way the Sun can heat the Earth is by radiance. The ONLY way the Earth can lose heat to space is by radiance.

CO2, water, methane, etc. do absorb infrared light. It is just the same as if the surface heated the atmosphere by conduction. It's just another way for the surface to be cooled by heating the atmosphere. Whether it's done by conduction or radiance it is the same.

Absorption of infrared from the surface does not warm the Earth. ALL of it, the surface, the CO2, the methane, the water, ALL of it radiates into space.

They aren't.

Temperature is a function of the air mass you happen to be standing in. If air is saturated with moisture and is then cooled, you will get clouds. Clouds are a result of the temperature of the air, not the reverse. Since colder air is more easily saturated, warmer air can hold more total moisture, producing thicker clouds and more likely clouds when cooled (such as when that air rises).

Air coming in from the oceans tends to have more moisture in it. (Fresh from ocean!)

Water vapor is not a cloud. Clouds are liquid water (or ice). Water vapor must be condensed out of the air to form visible clouds. When the cloud gets thick enough, it begins to rain (or snow).

This is why you tend to get more violent thunderstorms during summer. It IS possible to get thundersnow, but it's rare.

So while it may appear to cause more moderate temperatures, it is the nearby ocean doing that, not the clouds.
