Putin says violence 'will get worse' and plans to take over all of Ukraine

Russia’s attack on Ukraine is going ‘according to plan’ and the violence will ‘get worse’ , Vladimir Putin warned today.

The Russian President made the alarming comments to Emmanuel Macron, his French counterpart, during a phone call on Thursday afternoon.

After hanging up the phone at the end of the exchange, which lasted for an hour and a half, Mr Macron said "the worst is yet to come".

The Ukraine Nazis will die ...the left is sad!

Putin sounds desperate to me. This is another version of his nuke threat.

When was the last time Russia absorbed huge losses in a war? WWII, which was 75+ years ago. Even back then they had a lot of trouble absorbing huge losses in wars they started. In both the Soviet-Polish War after WWI, and the Winter War with Finland, before they entered WWII proper, the Russian troops proved to be timid, and refusing to sacrifice. Both wars were wars that the Soviets/Russians began, unlike WWII where they were invaded.

This war Putin has refused to have a general mobilization. He has done everything he can to avoid having to draft people for this war, or force reservists to return to active duty for this war. He also believes he needs a huge number of troops to defend against China, and NATO. There are also troops needed to interfere in Central Asian countries.

Realistically, Russia has not been able to put more than 300,000 real soldiers into the war, and has about 200,000 real soldiers in the war now. There might be 100,000 sort of soldiers who no one would trust in actual normal combat. Some of those are Arabs who do not even speak Russian, and have no desire to do any fighting.

Afghanistan, Chechen War, Georgian Civil War, the Insurgency in the North Caucus (2017)...

They make a habit of, and take pride in, losing more soldiers than they should in every single campaign.

The Soviet-Afghan had less than 15,000 Soviet/Russian deaths, compared to 58,000 American deaths in the Vietnam War. Both were seen as turning points in their countries history, but the USA survived that turning point.

The rest attempted to use non-Russian forces as much as possible. They were wars with countries 100 times smaller than Russia, where Russia lost a few thousand troops.

Ukraine shares a lot of history with Russia, including all their bloodier wars. It would be fair to give credit to the Ukrainians for resisting invaders in the most bloody way, also.

Do you not remember their failed gambit in Afghanistan?

They spent like 8 years and thousands of Russian soldiers' lives, only to get their asses kicked out.

The USA lost 58k in Vietnam. USSR lost 14k in Afghanistan. The USA lost 4.5k in Iraq. There is definitely a trend towards losing fewer and fewer troops, before calling it quits.

I guess if one chooses to believe what the Russians say about anything...

Me personally?

I'd multiply any number they report about their own losses by about 4.

Divide what they report about losses they inflicted by the same factor.
