The USSR used to produce tanks by the thousand nearly automatically. And I do mean automatically. When Gorbechev tried to reduce tank production, he found he did not have the power to do that.
I think we all know the economic failing of the USSR, but we sometimes forget their successes. They may not have been able to build many family cars, but they could build tanks like no ones business.
The metropolitan areas around certain major cities are very important to America's economy, with Seattle being one of the more important areas. Both Amazon and Microsoft are in the Seattle Area, along with thousands of other important, but smaller companies.
I had never heard of Lacey, which is unusual, so I looked it up. Is it the Lacey Community College?
