PUBS: Romney or bust

Some smart politicians are paid big bucks to go along with some things they don't believe. When voters do it, it screams no independent thought. IMO

What misstatement? That others claim that it happened on her deathbed? That isn't a misstatement, it is what I had heard and thought had happened until somebody closer to the circumstances simply stated that it hadn't happened. My post in this thread is about me, and others, who thought something was true that wasn't. That you take it personally for some reason seems odd. That you would dismiss the memory of a person who was there even more odd...

To reiterate.

I found out that: He didn't take them there to serve her papers, he took them there to visit their mother after a routine surgery. She wasn't dying, isn't dead, and it makes a difference for me.

I think that if any of these people survive this level of attack now, it will take these attacks away as a tool later. We'll actually have a campaign on the record of the President rather than the personal life of the republican candidate...

I know that character does matter to you. It has to matter. A personal life is a reflection of ones character. I just wish our politicians weren't such scoundrels.

ANYWAYS....seriously, why vote for Romney? He's white Obama, who is in turn black Bush. We've been perpetuating at least 20 years of presidential mediocrity and growing authoritarianism. If the Libertarian party doest run someone good, I simply won't vote.

Similar by virtue of being moderates, yet Romney will certainly pander to the corporatists.

I don't see any of the real Libertarians here posting thread after thread about the evil liberals, the stupid Occupiers, the marxist Obama, the thieving unions, etc. etc. If someone's not an equal opportunity basher, then I look to the side they support the most and criticize the least, and label them accordingly. IMO that makes him RW.

I don't know about that. I think Newt could be far more competitive against Obama then people give him credit for but I still think the only Republican candidate who stands a chance of beating Obama is Romney. After W there's no way independents or moderates will vote in large numbers for a conservative ideologue. As much as you may not like to admit this fact, not that Obama doesn't have serious short commings, The American public still largely blames George W. Bush and his ideological conservatism for getting our nation into its current mess. Ergo, Romney is the best candidate to give Obama a horse race. Much as the wingnuts don't like to hear this truth but the truth is an ideological conservative candidate would lose to Obama.

In study after study, they find that we are a center-right country. This means that most people ARE conservative. That IS "ideological conservatism" and about 60% of us have it. There is somewhat of a 'rift' between fiscal conservative libertarian seculars, and the more evangelical social conservatives, but neither of these groups is happy or satisfied with Barack Obama. The GOP is currently in the process of selecting a candidate, and in the end, will probably pick someone in between Romney and Paul. This seems to be either Cain or Newt for now. With four people tied for front-runner status, and 23% still undecided, this race is still wide open and anyone can win. Regardless of who is nominated, the choice will ultimately be between them and Obama. Best I can tell, aside from his most loyal supporters, no one wants that man to have another 4 years in the White House. You can talk you smack all you like, you can believe whatever fantasy you wish with regard to what the nation thinks, but the people generally vote based on their wallet or pocketbook.
