Gentrification. IE millennial white young people moving into downtown "ghettos" and making them nice.

We were told that if you are in a ghetto its impossible to stop crime and make the area nice. Because these poor minorities are too poor, and crime is too high, and all the whites are too meanies for them to succeed. And that the only solution is big government welfare programs and high taxes on whiteys.

Well turns out none of that was true. Poor white milenials, who don't have good access to jobs, or money, have moved into many urban cheap apartments and lofts, and have..... wait for it... made the areas NICE! Lowered crime, don't join street gangs, get out and landscape and make their properties look good.

This process also brings business back to areas, that have renovated old deteriorating buildings.

So once again, everything liberals told us was a lie. That no one can make it in the ghetto. Its impossible, give up and bow to the govt! They are liars driven by a socialist/communist agenda people! When will minorities wake up and smell the bullshit?

Gentrification doesn't have to be just white people moving into (poor) minority neighborhoods. (Upper) middle class blacks can gentrify poor areas as well for example. Generally gentrification is white and Asians moving into minority neighborhoods but not always.

I'm saying that is what the liberal argument was. That America is too racist and you are screwed if you are in a poor area. Gentrification and millennials have shown that's not true at all. You don't have to keep voting Dem and keep getting screwed.

Gentrification is the removal of tenants from an area by property owners, and the subsequent renovation of same. Who does it doesn't matter. You can allow low income people to move back in, but typically the plan is to jack up rents to the point where you create upper class neighborhoods.

If anyone decides to clean up a neighborhood by planting,landscaping, etc...you are no longer talking about a ghetto.

And nobody is buying your premise that gangs won't kill low income millenials that just happen to move next door.

The only part of what I said in post #4 that you actually credited to liberals was your mocking tone when you used the phrase, 'poor minorities'.

Face it, the point of your OP is that those lazy, slovenly black people living in ghettos choose drugs, gangs, and free handouts from the government, whereas, poor white millenials choose to clean up neighborhoods by rejecting drugs, gangs, and free handouts, putting a lie to what you believe is the liberal position. But that is bullshit.

I was intimately involved with the downtown urban renewal of Seattle. It did not happen because poverty-stricken white millennials displaced poverty-stricken blacks. It happened because the city government in the 1970s planned a detailed, comprehensive project of restoring the historical character of the the inner-city. That involved the city government's incentive for the private restoration of historical buildings, improvements to city owned infrastructure, and efforts of the police department to push prostitutes, drug dealers, and porn arcades out of the heart of downtown Seattle.

As a result of that effort, it became economically viable for developers to create upscale housing for professional millennials who paid a premium for being able to live closer to their work, and in a relatively safer neighborhood. Poor mellennials didn't move into ghettos because of cheaper rent. Your entire thread is bullshit.

Gentrification isn't just about tenants. Home owners can gentrify a neighborhood as well.

In the Bay Area many people are priced out of San Francisco so some move to oakland where many minorities are subsequentally priced out of oakland etc.

And property owners don't necessarily have to fix up their properties to gentrify. Market pressures alone can force it. New amenities/services in a neighborhood can cause prices to rise.

Gentrification means that wealthy people move into an area. This might at first mean bohemian young people, but inevitably they're followed by wealthier people.

If the goal is to attract a 'better' class of people, then rundown properties are not going to get you where you want.

If you're saying that owners sell to hedge funds/contractors who will then fix the place up, I agree.

You don't simply put a higher price tag on a shit hole, and declare gentrification has been accomplished.

So I better understand where you are coming from how would you describe how places like Brooklyn, San Francisco and Oakland gentrified?
