Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama leads Republican John McCain by 11 percentage points in the last USA TODAY/Gallup national poll of likely voters before Election Day.
With less than two days to go before polls open, the contenders' support is estimated to be:
• Obama, 53%.
• McCain, 42%.
One more historic tidbit from the survey: Obama's favorable rating is 62% -- the highest that any presidential candidate has registered in Gallup's final pre-election polls going back to 1992.
Amazing because it looks like the money and time and energy they spent calling this guy a terrorist, dangerous, and a marxist, might have been better spent explaining what their own plans were, should they win?
This is also amazing to me, because I had believed, probably because I have racists in my family, and I have known people to be racist all my life, that a black man couldn't win the Presidency yet. After Edwards was out, I figured, well, might as well go down trying with Obama, but I didn't believe it could happen. And here we see he has an historic pre-electin favorable rating. So I have been stunned, and happily so. Goodbye to all that!
