President Trump?

Trump doesn't really care if he gets attacked or what people think of him. He has no political capital to lose because he isn't a politician. I do think he, (or more likely, the GOP establishment), is willing to spend millions to keep Sarah Palin or Mike Huckabee off the ticket in 2012. He is doing nothing but appealing to the voters who would likely vote for Palin or Huckabee, not the more moderate libertarian type conservative, who might vote for Romney, and his strong suit is the same as Romney's. That is peculiar to me, but I have said that a few times already. I could see Trump running a third party candidacy... I could see Trump running as a fiscal conservative... I don't understand Trump running as a populist social conservative, it just doesn't make good political sense to me.

Did Obama's stance against gay marriage make him a social conservative? Trump was asked his opinion on two hot topic buttons for conservatives-and he answered them honestly. I think you have him figured wrong. I believe he is sincere in his toe dipping at this time. I do not think he is purposefully doing any favors for the establishment. Romney garners a lukewarm response-Palin is toxic- Huckabee is too "awe shucks" to be appealing- and Paul is never gonna get the support imo. That leaves some worthy, but little known possibilities that I hope bring some solid ideas to the campaign and are able to rile up enthusiasm to run against an incumbent president.

If you listened closely, he didn't really articulate a reason for why he is opposed to gay marriage, or abortion for that matter. Obama and others who are opposed to gay marriage, can make a case for WHY they are opposed. I didn't hear this from Trump, I heard someone telling what he thought I wanted to hear. On abortion, he said he had "changed his mind" and was no longer pro-choice, again, not giving any reason for why he changed his mind, or why he is opposed to abortion... just telling me what he thinks I want to hear.

The dynamics are simple, Romney is the moderate libertarian type fiscal conservative, he is 'lukewarm' only to the social conservatives, he is endeared by the establishment GOP elite. He's their guy! There is no one else they can or will vote for. So, all the moderate libertarian type fiscal conservatives are voting Romney, and all the TEA Party and social conservatives are going to split their votes up between Palin, Huckabee, Gingrich, Bachman (possibly) and now Trump. Do the math! Romney wins the nomination in a cake walk. That's not to say it couldn't happen if Trump wasn't in the race, but he makes it even more likely. If Palin, Bachman, or Huckabee were to see the writing on the wall, they would pull out and throw their support to the other, Trump probably wouldn't.

I could be wrong about all of this, I would love to be wrong, I like the idea of someone outside of politics holding the office of president, I think it would be a refreshing change... not sure it could actually happen, because people will tend to start really thinking about that before election day. Do we really want this man with ZERO experience governing, in the oval office? But I have listened very closely, and I keep getting the feeling that Trump is not being completely sincere, and his positioning seems custom designed by GOP elites who THINK this stuff is what those "stupid people" want to hear. Never mind actually EXPLAINING WHY you have these positions, you just "FEEL" that way. Now ID, I know you are like I am, every position you have that is considered "right wing"... you can explain WHY you have that view. Why didn't Trump leave me with the impression that he knew WHY he was opposed to gay marriage? Why didn't Trump explain WHY he had a change of heart about abortion? There are too many tell-tell signs here, just in how he answered the questions.

Trump said on the topic of gay marriage that he just "doesn't think it's right". As to abortion, I had heard he was anti abortion a while ago-not just lately- but I have t tell you that I am anti gay marriage and anti abortion, but neither of those two issues are absolute "I won't vote for you" issues. Obama on gay marriage said that he "personally didn't support gay marriage, but that it should be decided by the states". As to abortion he was much more politically slippery with all of his rhetorical double speak-but could not escape his record on the subject. Honestly Dix, I just think Trump sees how awful this country's economy is being managed and believes himself capable of doing the job necessary to get it back on the right track...let's see if he decides to run-If he still cannot articulate a clear platform on serious issues then he'll get the political boot.

As an aside Romney has changed his positions on those 2 social issues as well.
