Solyndra? Nah... that wasn't 'our deal' that was Congress... Congress did it... not 'me'

Obama: We are doing the "all of the above" strategy right. Obviously, we wish Solyndra hadn't gone bankrupt. Part of the reason they did was because the Chinese were subsidizing their solar industry and flooding the market in ways that Solyndra couldn't compete. But understand: This was not our program, per se. Congress -- Democrats and Republicans -- put together a loan guarantee program because they understood historically that when you get new industries, it's easy to raise money for startups, but if you want to take them to scale, oftentimes there's a lot of risk involved, and what the loan guarantee program was designed to do was to help start up companies get to scale. And the understanding is is that some companies are not going to succeed, some companies will do very well -- but the portfolio as a whole ends up supporting the kind of innovation that helps make America successful in this innovative 21st century economy.

Fucking funny... now all of the sudden it isn't Obama's deal. Biden being sent out to Solyndra for the official chest thumping... nah... Congress made him do that. Obama had nothing to do with that.

Also... the part about China being part of the reason they couldn't compete... kind of misleading. The Chinese invested in massive plants to produce silicon so that silicon prices would go down making solar power cheaper (which is the endgame everyone should be shooting for). The problem for Solyndra and Abound is that they both don't use silicon. Their competitive edge was due to high silicon prices. The 'subsidies' to the solar companies wasn't the direct problem. The REAL problem for the US Government is that we KNEW the plants were being built and we SAW silicon prices dropping and our idiots in DC STILL gave them the loan and THEN gave away senior status to Obama's billionaire buddy.

The best part is the part that since China is doing something stupid with their economic policy we need to join the stupidity. What a bunch of fucking morons Congress and Obama are.

that said, has obama ever taken responsibility for something that did not make him look good? to blame congress and not himself is not having the buck stop with him.

He said "program," not "deal." Are you saying that the loan guarantee program didn't exist before the Obama Administration?

Not defending him. I just don't see where your gripe is. He isn't blaming anyone else. The question he was responding to was whether his all of the above strategy made sense if all we have to show for it Solyndra and he responded that the loan guarantee program was something that wasn't his per se, that Republicans and Democrats supported it when it passed, that the concept involves risk, that the program should be judged by its overall portfolio, not a single company, and that he is proud to support it going forward.

That's all true. Apparently, you're upset that Obama said some true stuff that you think he shouldn't say because -- yeah, that's why.

Dung his entire paragraph I quoted in the OP is full of bullshit. He went from blaming China right into the 'to be clear its not our program'. He was trying to shirk responsibility for the company his admin chest pounded about a few years prior.

The fact of the matter is that silicon prices were declining well before the loan was made. It never should have been made. Period. The bulk of the advantage of Solyndra (and Abound Solar here in CO) was that they did not use silicon and thus were not affected by high silicon prices. Then the Chinese started producing more silicon.... and damned if the price didn't plunge.

Congress does indeed control the purse strings. Glad you finally admitted that Clinton was not responsible for the balanced budget in the late 1990's and that it was Democrats in charge of Congress for the two years leading up to the economic meltdown.

Are you saying that the actions of the Chinese were not a part of what brought down Solyndra? Are you saying that the loan guarantee program did not predate the Obama Administration? Are you saying that his stated rationale for government loan guarantee programs and the inherent risk involved is incorrect in some way? Is his statement about assessing the success of the portfolio of loan guarantees as opposed to individual loans wrong in some way?

To me, it looks like he made a series of correct statements that you take issue with because he didn't just say "Solyndra was wrong and it's all my fault" in response to a question about his overall energy policy.
