Feds trying to discredit Hunter Biden allegations, 'highly credible' whistleblowers say
WASHINGTON (TND) — Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, wrote an open letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray in May about “likely violations” of guidelines and regulations meant to prevent political bias from interfering with FBI and Justice Department (DOJ) matters.
In a second letter sent to Garland and Wray on Monday, Grassley said he obtained “highly credible” whistleblower allegations that give credence to his initial accusations that political bias has infected the FBI and DOJ.

The information provided to my office involves concerns about the FBI’s receipt and use of derogatory information relating to Hunter Biden, and the FBI’s false portrayal of acquired evidence as disinformation,” Grassley wrote in his letter sent to Garland and Wray on Monday. “The volume and consistency of these allegations substantiate their credibility and necessitate this letter.
Among his several allegations, Grassley pointed to a 2020 FBI intelligence assessment “used by an FBI headquarters team to improperly discredit negative Hunter Biden information as disinformation.”
Furthermore, according to Grassley, allegations were made that the information gathered in the assessment was tightly restricted, preventing proper oversight and opening the door to improper influence.
In Grassley’s initial letter, he pointed his finger at a specific FBI agent — Timothy Thibault, the Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) at the FBI Washington Field Office.
While serving in his “highly sensitive” position at the Washington Field Office, Thibault engaged in critical “threshold decision-making” over federal public corruption matters, according to Grassley.

n October 2020, an avenue of additional derogatory Hunter Biden reporting was ordered closed at the direction of ASAC Thibault,” Grassley wrote in his Monday letter. “It’s been alleged that the FBI HQ team suggested to the FBI agents that the information was at risk of disinformation; however, according to allegations, all of the reporting was either verified or verifiable via criminal search warrants."
In addition, ASAC Thibault allegedly ordered the matter closed without providing a valid reason as required by FBI guidelines," Grassley continued. "Despite the matter being closed in such a way that the investigative avenue might be opened later, it’s alleged that FBI officials, including ASAC Thibault, subsequently attempted to improperly mark the matter in FBI systems so that it could not be opened in the future.”
