Defence counsel Ben Allison appeared in the Calgary Court of Justice on Thursday and asked that Reimer’s case be adjourned to next week while he awaits disclosure from Crown prosecutor Matt Dalidowicz.

Allison told Justice Karen Molle that he won’t be able to consider the issue of seeking bail for Reimer, who will spend Good Friday and Easter Sunday in remand, until he receives information from the prosecution.

“At this point, Justice, I have no disclosure in this matter,” Allison said of the latest set of charges laid against his client by Calgary police.

Molle agreed to adjourn the case to next Wednesday, and since Dalidowicz said the Crown is proceeding by way of summary conviction — meaning the charges are being treated as less serious — Reimer won’t be required to appear from the Calgary Remand Centre where he is currently housed.

Despite what you may think, Canadians don't actually have freedom of speech

Tristin Hopper: Unlike in the U.S., you can go to jail in Canada for saying the wrong thing

Canada doesn’t technically have guaranteed free speech | ESBB #Shorts

"You’ll often hear Canadians talking about their fundamental right to free speech. But, as with many Canadian misconceptions, this is a case of them mistaking themselves for Americans.

Yes, “freedom of expression” is guaranteed by our Charter of Rights and Freedoms, but there’s a pretty big loophole nobody mentions. The preamble to the Charter explicitly mentions that this freedom is subject to “reasonable limits.”

There’s also the other part of the Charter where provincial governments can steamroll any freedom they want, provided they publicly announce that they’re doing so.

This is all very different from the US, where you just have the First Amendment.

But in Canada, it means that you can get fined or even go to jail based on something you say. Say something on Twitter that “willfully promotes hatred” and you could go to jail for two years."

Our First Amendment was not written to protect pleasant speech.

It’s to protect unpleasant speech.

We all love pleasant speech.

The far left Democratic Socialist loons think that any criticism of perversion is hate speech.

It is not…it is a statement of a centuries old morality judgement by the final arbiter of morality, The Grand Architect of the Universe.
