Even the Senate Republican leader is certain that Trump was responsible for the outrages of Jan 6. "There's no question, none, that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day." See post #25.

McConnel voted not guilty on the impeachment charge because Trump is no longer in office, and for no other reason. And he warned that Trump is still open to criminal prosecurion.

57-43. Most bipartisan trial vote of any. And many of those 43 did not vote on the evidence. They voted, improperly, on the process.

What was Trump’s motive with inciting the riot? Motives are something that comes up in actual trials and no one I’ve asked seems to have an answer for it.

Why would Trump cut his own nose off to spite his face by disrupting the very proceeding he and his team spent weeks preparing for by turning the horned shaman loose on the Capitol?

Makes zero sense but give it a go.

Trump wanted the vote *delayed* to allow state legislatures to review their irregularities. He can’t ‘stop the vote’. How was that supposed to work? The EC had to vote at some point but Trump’s team wanted to weed out the illegal votes and just count legal votes.

IOW, Trump had nothing to gain and everything to lose by telling the rioters to storm the Capitol.

That WILL come up in a trial and the prosecution needs to be prepared to answer it.

Or else it can be a short proceeding.
