It's meant to ward off demons and is a sign of protection, essentially. At least it's something like that. It was popularized by Ronnie James Dio, and it's been a while since I've heard the explanation. It does, however, have a place in heavy metal lore, which some try to associate with rebellion and the devil.
That one is "ILY" "I Love You". These are the Satan ones. Note the "I wuv 000, Satan" one. LOL

Um... Ozzy, if you mean the one with the thumb across the fingers in the center. Looks more like a Hook 'em Horns from Texas, this one is not that. Ozzy "coined" the horns... The thumb across the center changes the "I" portion of I love you into an "S"... Some folks say it then means "Satan Loves You"... but it isn't the sign for I Love You...

I was mistaken, but not about Dio coining the horns.

Heavy metal culture

Ronnie James Dio was known for popularizing the sign of the horns in heavy metal. He claimed his Catholic Italian grandmother used it to ward off the evil eye (which is known in Italy as malocchio). Dio began using the sign soon after joining the metal band Black Sabbath in 1979. The previous singer in the band, Ozzy Osbourne, was rather well known for using the "peace" sign at concerts, raising the index and middle finger in the form of a V. Dio, in an attempt to connect with the fans, wanted to similarly use a hand gesture. However, not wanting to copy Osbourne, he chose to use the sign his grandmother always made. The horns became famous in metal concerts very soon after Black Sabbath's first tour with Dio. The sign would later be appropriated by heavy metal fans.

Fair enough. I thought the horns was used the entire time by Black Sabbath.... Dio was the second lead singer of Sabbath.

The important bit to me was the sign language. I have been an interpreter...
