The problem with the Catholic Church is that many of it's members lack Scriptural knowledge. How can you do the work of Christ, if you don't even know what it is?

Yes, Christianity has been divided and thus weakened. We are too busy fighting each other while the enemy laughs(all the way to the bank) and watches in entertainment.

America was founded by people(protestants) escaping persecution from the Catholic Church in Europe.

Catholicism was illegal in England. German Catholic immigrants didn't really play a significant role in America until after the revolution, when a German wave came over in the 1780s.
