Voters don’t like him.

And the more they get to know him, it looks like the less they may think of him personally.

For months, Romney has been “upside down” on his favorability.

That means in poll after poll, Romney’s personal unfavorability has been higher than his favorability, and when voters are probed more directly on this dimension, the results are even more lopsided.

In a recent Gallup poll, when voters were asked about “likeability,” they favored President Obama by 60% to 30% over Romney.

According to a new ABC News/Washington Post Poll, just 40% of the public has a favorable view of the former Massachusetts governor — and his unfavorable numbers have grown from 45% to 49%.

Among independents, the numbers are still worse: 37% favorable, 50% unfavorable, and the CNN poll released on Thursday shows that Romney’s high unfavorability is hurting his vote.

Contrast that to Obama.

Whatever mistakes the President has made in office, however passionately Americans may disagree with him, relatively high numbers of voters have a pretty high personal opinion of the man.

They think he’s a decent person, and they continue to view him as a strong leader.
