I have to say that all the sneering, love that word, and snideness on display is very reminiscent of Reagan's dealings with Gorbachev. I was very much a part of that, but they pulled it off in the teeth of fierce opposition.

Bolton is the architect of the Iraq War, and both Bolton and Pompeo thought is was a great idea to invade Iraq and kill and overthrow it's leaders based on mere suspicions of WMDs.

I am pretty sure the hardened communist leaders of N. Korea remember that, and drew some lessons from it

Oh, Kim will play the game. He got what he wanted most -- an American president to kiss his ass, photo-ops to show his countrymen his own toughness and how he brought America to heel. He played Trump like a fiddle at a blue-grass festival.

Agree

I think this is why previous presidents never just showed up to give a tin pot dictator a chance for a photo op and to use the American president to enhance their stature.

I actually could never see George Dumbya meeting with Saddam Hussein face to face, or Ronald Reagan meeting with Fidel Castro without substantial and verifiable concessions beforehand.

Yep. Those guys might have been (R)s, but they kept the image of both America and the Presidency close to their hearts.
