in the wake of the giffords shooting, elected officials from all levels of government branches are now trying to create more gun laws for their protection, as well as create exemptions for their own personal gun carrying.

These idiots have it all wrong. THEY are the ones who should remain permanently disarmed and without security. This is to ensure that they legislate according to the constitutions of their states and not decide to do whatever they want with no regard to the rights of the people that they are supposed to protect.
