BALTIMORE — A 225-year-old monument to Christopher Columbus was damaged by a vandal who took a sledge hammer to the obelisk in Baltimore.

Baltimore Police spokesman T.J. Smith said at a news conference that crime apparently occurred early Monday. A video of the vandalizing was posted on YouTube.

The video included narration by a man who pummeled the base of the 44-foot-tall monument, shattering part of it.

Smith says police have not identified suspects in the crime.

According to the Maryland Historical Society website, the monument’s cornerstone was laid in 1792 at the north Baltimore country home of one of the first French consuls in the colonies. It was moved to its current location in 1964.

That's kinda funny, some dimwit does something stupid to a statue and conservative are having cardiac arrest, erasing history, terrorizing the populace, wonder if they get that alarmed when the local juvenile delinquents do the same in the neighborhood cemetery

it's not "some dimwit" it's a concerted effort across the nation to destroy our history.
The same thing happened in Boston last weekend where a Columbus statue was vandalized.

It's inexcusable and barbarian, and you should condemn it as an assault on our collective history

Over the weekend, a Columbus statue in Boston was painted red and a protest was held at a statue in Detroit, he said.

In 2015, someone splashed red paint and planted a hatchet on the head of a bronze statue of Columbus in Detroit, according to the Detroit News.

Caira said there’s been an uptick in attention to Columbus monuments since the events in Charlottesville, as people rethink the value of statues in public places.

Columbus was a dick and the time has come to end Columbus Day.

AS I said in the other thread, I take time every Columbus Day to talk to the youth in my family about why there should never be a Columbus Day. I teach them about his 2nd voyage to America and whaty he did to the Native People who saved him.

it's an assault on our history - I don't know if it would destroy it.
Do you get the idea of how vile revisionism is? It's applying our temporary 21st century ideas by a MINORITY if the population ( not like racial minority -numerical minority) to vandalize their marginal viewpoint.

It's illegal, it's not done thru a historical commission or a ballot box. It's not the will of 'we the people'.
