I think it's saying plastics come from petroleum but as the cost of obtaining petroleum increases the price of plastic increases as a result but the presence of plastic itself doesnt directly raise the cost of petroleum. It's a problem of awkward phrasing but that seems to be the current state of AI

Agreed but the distinction AI seems to trying to make is the price of petroleum is related to factors other than the things that an be made from petroleum.
