Even before that. There was the whole 'commie' scare in the 50's. btw, the mafia lawyer Trump used, Roy Cohn, was the same one used by 50's Republicans to intimidate people in that effort.

But lately, it has just become bizarre. They routinely ignore the news and invent their own reality.

I guess if you don't want to admit what's really going on in the world, one option is to go Republican and just live in a pretend alternate universe. Too bad the whole point of that is servicing the super-rich and their corruption of our government (despite what Republicans think.)

North Korea backed by the PRC invading South Korea wasn't a "commie scare", but I agree RW fearmongers exaggerated the problem, as politicians are wont to do. You know, like Democrats calling Republicans fascists and racists for disagreeing with them. LOL

Agreed on both points. Part of problem is that Americans have failed to hold our leaders accountable. They give their own people a free pass and name-call their opponents as the worst examples of humanity.

Most Americans just don't care, are repulsed by politics, so they just look the other way and/or claim both sides do it.

Teach the importance of civic duty in school.

We would not have a country if everyone just blew it off.

We have a country because of people who care, get properly informed, and stay actively engaged in our politics. Those are true patriots.
