Phoenix speech

A wall is going to cost over $10 billion. $200 million in aid money isn't going to make a dent.

There's different ways government throws money around and some are better than others. A wall is a decent proposition just on its merits in controlling illegal immigration. As opposed to $10 billion going to solar technology or etc.

But how many jobs will that produce compared to the numbers of jobs required to build the wall?

I love it, Mexico pays for our "shovel ready" jobs!

You'll have to pardon my skepticism when reading a politician's claim on something like this. Mexico isn't going to pay for a wall and essentially ending all trade and diplomatic relations to get them to do so would be an economic disaster for our country.

It would be a bigger disaster for Mexico to not cooperate. For all of his posturing claim "of i told Trump Mexico won't pay for the wall", I guarantee you he knows there are plenty of ways to be compelled.

Trump isn't your bought and paid for political mouth piece. I believe this, if ever there were an elected official who could get it done, its Trump.

Like another poster said, "nice to know even Mexico accepts the fact of a wall".

There are certainly challenges to building a wall that is not only functional, but as aesthetic as possible. Then there's the Rio Grande.

Paying for the wall is a walk in the park.

There are mountains, deserts, rivers, lakes, national parks and Indian reservations plus private land to contend with.

Look at where most of our illegals come from today and it's not crossing the Mexican border. Look at the results of building the fence when they found security was more effective than the fence.

An this is another example of Trump being a Democrat in having his supporters arguing Keynesian econonic principles stating this wall will create jobs.

So he's not even for legal status? So full deportation.

Not sure he's going to get any latino support, since all they vote for is the amnesty giver. Which will be corrupt Hitlery.

For those who are involved in criminal activity immediate proceeding for deportation. For anyone caught trying to enter immediately deported. For all illegal violent offenders, immediate deportation. THEN, we look towards those who are here without legal residency.

But the motivation for building the wall isn't jobs. Jobs, lots of jobs, would be an unintended consequence of it.

They'll pay for it in a round about way lol. But yeah, I'm sure there's scores of cement contractors, carpenters, heavy equipment operators, electricians and etc that are licking their chops over it.

It's not long term work but probably several years worth.

plus infrastucture to get the stuff there. New border cities could pop up too whose main industry is document and legal processing.

he has to have a plan. One can quibble with minor details - like presumptive legal status or earned path to citizenship.
And that is indeed after the criminal deportations, and Kates law is implemented along with border controls.

Get that done first (instead of never doing anything like now) and see how it goes.
It's at least an outline that is step by step, and Constitutional using existing law -unlike Obama/Hillary's executive orders

Our current laws allow for immediate deportation of illegal immigrants. Trumps emerging understanding of the complexities involved should be encouraging for every American, personal politics aside. His adaptability to prioritizing deportations is exactly how you begin the process of turning this around.
