Two years at best:

Applicants shall satisfy ONE of the following:

Have a minimum of an associate degree from a respiratory therapy educational program 1) supported or accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC), or 2) accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and graduated on or before November 11, 2009.

OR
Be a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credentialed by the NBRC.

OR
Be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentialed by the NBRC.

OR
Complete 62 semester hours of college credit from a college or university accredited by its regional association or its equivalent, including college credit level courses in biology, chemistry and mathematics. A minimum of six months of clinical experience* in the field of pulmonary function technology under the direction of a Medical Director of a pulmonary function laboratory or a special care area is also required prior to applying for the examination.

OR
Be a high school graduate (or the equivalent) and complete two years of clinical experience* in the field of pulmonary function technology under the direction of a Medical Director of a pulmonary function laboratory or a special care area prior to applying for the examination.

What? You only have a BS? Noob! Whatsa matter? Couldn't get accepted into grad school? LOL

and BTW, cardiopulmonary technicians span the gamit from 2 year technicians who run EKG's to surgical perfusionist who's education is significantly greater then yours.

I not only got into grad school (engineering) but took and passed all the course requirements for the degree. That makes a total of 161 college and graduate credits. I'm also licensed to practice in three states which is an eight hour exam, followed by at least four years of experience under the responsible charge of a licensed engineer, at least 9 letters of recommendation from licensed professionals, a second 8-hour exam. Oh, and at least 15 hours of course work every year to keep in good standing. :)
