Well Apple, most of us have gotten over myths, ghosts, lies, fantasy and such, a long time ago.......so our 'reality' is not always as pleasant as yours.....

I'm not sure what all that means as there's nothing to "get over". As for my sig line it's simply offering good wishes to others and I'm well aware there needs to be more political changes. There is no reason people should have to do without basic necessities including medical care.

Obama had to start from scratch to make changes. ObamaCare is a giant step as it points to the direction where the country has to go. That was a major obstacle/hurdle. Also, supporting unions is nothing more than giving people security. If a person is doing their job they should not be subject to the whims of management concerning their job and medical coverage. Since the advent of widely available credit people have to be secure in the knowledge they can honor their obligations. In the past if a person lost a job they didn't lose what they had as the things they possessed were paid for. In the past people didn't commute to jobs the way they do today. Today's reality is different and changes are necessary.

What some people view as Obama instituting socialism is nothing more than adapting to the new reality. Because we are more interdependent than ever before, one depending on the other, there has to be plans/programs in place that allow individuals continuity. A example is it was easier to get a mortgage if one was employed by a major unionized company compared to an individual entrepreneur with their own small business due to the fact the small business owner was much more likely to become unemployed than the union worker. The bank had to depend on the individual to repay the loan and the risk had a bearing on interest rates and whether the person even received the loan.

As we become more interdependent with ever increasing changes there has to be certain security features built in. It's not about government control and socialism. It's about society being able to function smoothly.

translation: general welfare means the government is supposed to provide your every basic need.

we all know that's wrong, except for a few of you die hard liberals.

which inevitably means bigger government, more government control, and socialism.

The government doesn't have to necessarily provide the services but they have to oversee them. Certain jurisdictions have what's referred to as "essential services". For example, the Police can not all go on strike. If one requires the assistance of the Police, say they're involved in an auto accident, the service is available. The same should be available for medical care.

which inevitably means bigger government, more government control, and socialism.

Where I live the government provides a day care service. The individual pays $7.00/day and the rest is subsidized by the government. One can hire their own babysitter and not use the service so there is no government "control". One is not obliged to use a service offered by the government so the argument of control isn't valid. If children are our future, as so many claim, then contributing to such a service, through taxes, seems reasonable.

The "control" objection to government services is, in most cases, disingenuous. People are not obliged to use the services any more than contributing to public transit means one has to take the bus to work. It is an overall benefit including less cost for many, less pollution, less traffic, etc. In short, it benefits society. Nobody's freedom is being curtailed.
