Buoyed by his recent entry into the 2012 presidential contest, Texas Gov. Rick Perry has jumped past former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and leads the GOP field for the first time, according to a new Gallup poll of Republican voters.

The national survey showed Perry leading Romney by a double-digit margin—29% to 17%.

It also found that Michele Bachmann got no significant bounce from her victory in an Iowa straw poll, which was overshadowed by Perry’s announcement speech the same day.

Shoot, according to Gallup he's barely entered the race and is already in a tie with Obama. And yes, if he wins the Primary I would support him over Obama in the General election.

I do think that being a frontrunner this early is as close to the kiss of death as you'll ever get without meeting a guy with a sickle in his hand.

As I've previously pointed out, Perry has already received the KISS:

Sure he could win, hell, Backman could win. I am really hoping for the good of the nation however the Republicans will nominate Romney or Huntsman.

Just watched the news for awhile - the machine is already behind Perry.

Man, if there was ever a time I wanted the GOP to nominate a decent human being, this is it. Obama's chances for a 2nd term aren't good, & Perry will be a disaster. And the last time I said the Republican candidate would be a disaster was in 2000.

Is that BDS?

When have the Republicans done anything for the good of the nation?

Not surprised here, another eight years of Bush! but I guess that is better to you.

IF Perry were to win you think he would already have re-election locked up? Do you think any Republican running is different than Bush? I'm just curious if the 'four/eight more years of Bush' is a standard line for any Republican running or is that reserved for Perry because he is from Texas?

As soon as Perry's close ties to Dominionism come out, he'll be toast...

They've been out. He's still white bread, not toast.

Do you think most Teabaggers aren't totally OK with Dominionism?

Do you think they'll obfuscate, deflect and propagandize their way to the GOP nomination?

They could win.
