People Starve and Die in NY, NJ, and Bush does nothing...wait...

Sorry - Bush's leadership was absent during Katrina. We didn't expect him to be there helping to deliver food. We expected him to be visible, reassuring everyone that the gov't was on it, working with local authorities & leaders from the other party, removing red tape for relief efforts and setting up things like a 15-minute response line.

You know - all of the stuff Obama has done.

Sorry - Obama's leadership is just as absent. You DID expect Bush to be there, you DID expect him to have protected those people from the hurricane. You DID hold him accountable for weeks, months, and now years, after the disaster. He DID reassure you the government was on it, in fact he declared a national disaster 3 days before the hurricane hit, a FIRST for an American president. He tried to work with state and local officials, BEFORE THE HURRICANE HIT! But the state officials were completely oblivious and the local officials were hold up in Baton Rouge.

In the end, there is absolutely ZERO difference in how Katrina was handled and how Sandy was handled at the federal level, the same "red tape" exists in both cases. With Katrina, mobile housing was not allowed into New Orleans because of restrictions on mobile housing, with Sandy, response teams are not permitted in the city because they are not unionized. In both cases, it's a complete clusterfuck and people are suffering and dying... the DIFFERENCE is, Obama is being praised and Bush was crucified!

I've lost count on what number "Obama's Katrina" this is? Anyone know what we're up to now?

Also, too, it amazes me that people still to this day defend George Bush on Katrina. Get over it, man. I'm sure he has.

There is no comparison at all. I remember watching the Katrina coverage. It was a feeling of helplessness, and the overwhelming theme for days was "who is in charge of this thing? Is anyone coordinating relief efforts?"

I think everyone involved on Sandy has been stellar. Barely an hour goes by where you don't see Christie, Obama, Bloomberg, Cuomo et al. on TV, talking specifically about relief efforts and how help is on its way for those who need it. There is no leadership vacuum on this one, as there was w/ Katrina.

Hear that, folks in NY and NJ? Things are STELLAR! You aren't starving and dying, and nothing is wrong! Obama and the Dems are making speeches on TV, so all is FINE!

Obama flew home from Florida early to be in the WH the night before Sandy hit...Bush flew over New Orleans and viewed the damage from his 747.

YEah NY and NJ... Hear that? Bush flew on his 747... Obama flew on Joe Biden's back! Isn't Obama GREAT?

I got news for the good people of Staten Island - the ports were closed down for the storm and right now NOBODY got any gas.

However,

http://www.newsday.com/long-island/cuomo-on-gas-no-reason-to-panic-1.4181130

It is coming.

And the National Guard has been on Staten Island since Tuesday. It's a terrible disaster area, and they are fucked long term. But short-term, the Guard is there and food and water is being dispersed. No one will starve. But they're not getting heat anytime soon, and FYI on Long Island LIPA hasn't even bothered to attempt to give a timeline for return of power.

Con Ed in NYC has said they will have Manhattan back online by Sunday, so I guess they are going to get good grades. The other utilities, eh, not so much.

How am I getting around as of today? Bicycle! That's right. You know what, adapt. There's no gas for anyone. Idiots are stabbing other idiots for it. Me, I said, yeah, have fun with all that and took my bike to work. I have a quarter of a tank left and want in case there should be an emergency where someone needs to get to a hospital.

Someone snapped your picture:

A friend told me that a crowd at a Ryan rally yesterday cheered and applauded and yelled "Kill them all!" when the 91 dead on the East coast from Hurricane Sandy was mentioned... :(

A friend in New York told me that you decided to reduce your rates for a lay, from a nickel to a penny; because of the disaster.

Yeah, Obama seems to have had more than his share of "Katrina" failures, hasn't he?

News reports people starving and dying without power, food or water in NY and NJ, and you AREN'T defending Obama when you claim all is well and everything is under control? Get over it man, I am sure Obama has! He's got campaigning to do!

A few miscreants and you are ready to blame the whole program, it isn't fair Liberty, the agency, even though flawed does Far more good than harm! I would hate to think what relief would be like without them! Well, we know, it would be like the early days of Katrina! Absolutely chaos!

Hear that folks in NY and NJ? It's NOT chaos there with no power, food or water! Everything is FINE! Obama made a speech and came to see you! Don't you feel better about it than they did during Katrina? Of course you do, because Obama is GREAT!

I think he meant that conservatives like yourself - who are still incredibly self-conscious about Bush's leadership failure w/ Katrina - always try to desperately label something "Obama's Katrina." Even something like this, where he has a 78% approval rating.

Are the people who still don't have power, food or water, in NY and NJ a part of that poll?

Here's the deal, the SAME EXACT THING is happening to the people affected by Sandy, as happened to those affected by Katrina... NO difference, they are suffering just exactly the same, and it's taking the same amount of time to get help to them. With Bush, it was all his fault and due to his lack of leadership and competence, etc. With Sandy, you are PRETENDING that Obama has saved their day... but they are still in the exact same boat as those who were affected by Katrina... no power, no food, no water.

What we see here, is a difference of perspective depending on the letter beside a president's name. If he has an (R) it's failure and incompetence, if he has a (D) it's greatness and leadership... but the results are the same... no power... no food... no water! People starving... people dying!

It's not the exact same thing at all Dixie. In Katrina, the governor of the affected state hindered federal efforts for several days. For Sandy, the governor of the affected state invited the president in without hesitation.

Are you suggesting that 78% of the people favor "D's"?

Wow - I didn't realize that. Romney has less of a chance on Tuesday than I thought.

Victims of Katrina weren't eating out of garbage cans.....in NY, they are.....but they are rabid Democrats in NY, so let 'em enjoy.......

I disagree.

I think FEMA is a joke, a complete waste of time, and money.

Agree, but in both cases, people are suffering, people don't have power, food or water. With Bush/Katrina it was government's fault... With Obama/Sandy, that's just how things are and nothing can be done. It's a complete DOUBLE STANDARD!

No, I am suggesting the poll doesn't include people with no power, water or food, in NY and NJ.

They just interviewed some people in Staten Island, one of the worst hit areas. They were saying "thank you FEMA" and "thank you Obama," because by the end of the day, relief stations were set up all across the island, getting food & supplies to people who needed it.

I'm going to add this personal note here. I have friends who work for the power companies down here, who made the trip up there to help restore power. They were turned away because they weren't unionized, and have now returned home... THIS HAPPENED! All over the media today, it is being reported this didn't really happen! That's what kind of bizarre-o world we are living in... George Orwell is turning over in his grave! I personally KNOW THESE PEOPLE... IT DID HAPPEN!

That is because #1, they are in NY which is major Obama Country, and #2 the mainstream media is in full spin mode on this. Wow... shocked they found people in New Fucking York to "thank" Obama!
