Pentagon proposes huge sale of warplanes to Saudi Arabia

Osama Bin Laden and most of his followers were BANISHED from the Kingdom. While there certainly are elements in the Kingdom that still support the Osama's of the world, just as there are elements in the US that supported the IRA, the Kingdom kicked Osama out due to his radical actions.

True enough, but we've sold arms to the Saudis since the 1950s. I would have thought they'd be cut off after 9/11.

"The United States has long been Saudi Arabia’s leading arms supplier. From 1950 through 2006, Saudi Arabia purchased and received from the United States weapons, military equipment, and related services through Foreign Military Sales (FMS) worth over $62.7 billion and foreign military construction services (FMCS) worth over $17.1 billion (figures in historical dollars).

These figures represent approximately 19% of all FMS deliveries and 85% of all FMCS deliveries made worldwide during this period. The largest single recent U.S. foreign military sale to Saudi Arabia was a $9 billion contract for 72 F-15S fighter aircraft. The contract was signed in May 1993, and delivery of the F-15S aircraft was completed in 1999."

So, if I'm reading this correctly, our government, which has a huge debt to pay, is selling some of it's older, surplus stock, which gives us money, and in fact saves us money as well (by not having to continuously pay for upkeep, storage, etc.) and this is a bad thing? While not mentioned in the article, I'll be willing to bet we're selling old F-16 and F-15s, AH-1 cobras, and some Oliver Hazard Perry escort ships. This is all equipment that's been slated for the chopping block anyways.

As for Cypress' supposed 'point' about us not selling anything to the Iraqis, you're flat out wrong. We've sold them all sorts of older U.S. equipment. HMMWVs, ammo, helos, NVGs, Etc.

The article says new equipment.

The Pentagon plans to notify Congress of the proposed Saudi sale within about a week, spokesman Col. David Lapan said Monday. He would not confirm details of the Saudi shopping list pending congressional notification, but two senior defense officials said it includes as many as 84 new F-15 fighter jets and three types of helicopters, including the sleek Black Hawk and the missile-toting Apache.

'New' is a relative term, especially when dealing with surplus items. The F-15 is slated to be replaced in the next 10 years, for example. Apaches are almost certainly older "C" models, and the Blackhawk was always for sale anyways.

You're the expert. The only way I'd know newer from older is if they were different colors, or something.

The history of the Al Saud has been marked by a desire to unify the Arabian Peninsula and to spread a more purified view of Islam. The House of Saud defends the ahl-us-sunnah (Wahhabi Islam) and is linked with the family of Shaykh Muhammad bin Abdul-Wahhab through the marriage of the son of Muhammad ibn Saud with the daughter of Muhammad Abd al Wahhab in 1744.

Bush is a first rate cocksniff.

Prescott Bush, shrub grandfather, sold oil to the nazi during a time of war.

This is who our leadership is and how much they care about americans.

There will be holy war until the infidels withdraw from Islamic lands and submit to Allah (Peace be upon Him) the All-Wise.
