In the 1936 Berlin Olympics hosted by Adolf Hitler, FDR let Hitler basically tell us we couldn’t have Jews on the team. Jesse Owens, an African American who won several track and field events, was not given a gold medal by him because of his racist policies.

Hitler got a great public relations boon out of those Olympic Games.
