...Since Mr Obama took office, the rate of threats against the president has increased 400 per cent from the 3,000 a year or so under President George W. Bush, according to Ronald Kessler, author of In the President's Secret Service.

Some threats to Mr Obama, whose Secret Service codename is Renegade, have been publicised, including an alleged plot by white supremacists in Tennessee late last year to rob a gun store, shoot 88 black people, decapitate another 14 and then assassinate the first black president in American history.

Most, however, are kept under wraps because the Secret Service fears that revealing details of them would only increase the number of copycat attempts. Although most threats are not credible, each one has to be investigated meticulously.

According to the book, intelligence officials received information that people associated with the Somalia-based Islamist group al-Shabaab might try to disrupt Mr Obama's inauguration in January, when the Secret Service co-ordinated at least 40,000 agents and officers from some 94 police, military and security agencies.

Now I went to two pre-Iraq War protests in San Francisco and one during war protest - all in Ms. Pelosi's district. At each event there were multiple signs wishing death to Bush and people carry dolls of Bush being hung. Now this is not to say two wrongs make a right and its ok to do this to Obama. But I didn't hear a peep then from Pelosi that people need to watch what they say and to 'curb their enthusiasm' because it might cause violence. It's very transparent Ms. Pelosi.

Bush got a free ride, for the most part, for his first two years.

He had 80 to 90 percent approval rating, and the criticism of him was pretty muted.

The only time you saw people get irate at bush, and employ some of the imagery you recall, was after Bush decided to lie us into war. A lot of us knew it was a lie and that thousands of americans and tens of thousands of Iraqis would likely die as a result of the lies.

So, liberals got pissed when bush lied hundreds of thousands of people to their deaths.

Republicans get irate about a modest attempt at healthcare reform, and a stimulus bill.

Trying to put Ted Kyzinski in any political group is a joke.

The man was a complete lunatic. The fact that his rants did include pro-environmental babble is not evidence that he was a liberal.

And even if you put him in the liberal category, Timothy McVeigh killed far more people. And he was certainly a conservative.



I find any of this sort of violence despicable. That the liberals excuse violence from their side and the conservatives do the same concerning violence from their side shows how far we have sunk.

The main thing in the thread is each side saying "your side is more violent" and "if we have to use violence we will".

Sad really.
