(CNSNews.com) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi introduced legislation on Friday that would require the president and vice president and candidates for the presidency and vice presidency to release their tax returns.

The bill, however, would not require members of Congress or candidates for Congress to release their tax returns.

In 2017, when members of Congress were calling on President Donald Trump to release his tax returns, Roll Call asked all 535 members of the House and Senate to release theirs. As Roll Call reported at the time, 6 members did release their tax returns as requested by the publication. Another 6 had already released theirs elsewhere. Another 45 members, Roll Call reported, had previously and partially released their tax returns. But 473 members had not released their tax returns and did not respond to Roll Call’s request that they do so.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi was one of the members, Roll Call reported, who had not released her tax returns.

You are very mixed up my dear, and have confused two different things. The Pelosi bill deals with Presidential tax returns going forward, and has nothing at all to do with Congresses current ability to obtain Trumps tax returns.
 
Pelosi can introduce any bill she wants. Will said bill pass the Senate? Will Trump sign it?

Regardless, this story does illustrate Nattering Nancy's hypocrisy.

PS The Supreme Court has similar rules--unless of course you are CLARENCE THOMAS who repeatedly, year after year, left off his wife's income. From CONSERVATIVE groups, no less! Imagine if Ruth Bader Ginsberg husband had $700,000 in income over 4 years from say, the ACLU or Planned Parenthood or any other 'board' he might have been able to sit on BECAUSE OF HIS WIFE'S POSITION?

Of course "failure to disclose" was done during a REPUBLICAN presidency so who gives a shit right?

WASHINGTON ---- Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas failed over the course of at least five years to report his wife's income from a conservative think tank on his financial disclosures,according to the watchdog group Common Cause.

Between 2003 and 2007, Virginia Thomas, a longtime conservativeactivist, was paid $686,589 by the Heritage Foundation, aconservative think tank, according to a Common Cause review of IRS records. Thomas failed to note the income in his financial disclosure forms for those years, choosing instead to check a boxtitled "none" where "spousal non-investment income" would normallybe disclosed.

A Supreme Court spokesperson authorized to speak on behalf of the justices could not immediately be reached for comment late Friday. But Virginia Thomas' employment by the Heritage Foundation was well-known at the time.

Virginia Thomas also has been active in the group Liberty Central, an organization she founded for the purpose of restoring the "founding principles" of limited government and individual liberty.
In his 2009 disclosure, Clarence Thomas also reported spousal income as "none." Common Cause contends that Liberty Central paid Virginia Thomas an unknown salary during that year.

PS What I would like to know is if Trump got into Penn with "his really really smart" brain. Or did Daddy grease the skids? Like Jared's daddy did to get him into Harvard by an endowment of $1MIL plus. I bring this up because TRUMP has shown ZERO evidence of a high level of intelligence. What's more even back in the 'olden days', most colleges required an essay upon entrance. I guess he could have someone WRITE IT FOR HIM.

Addendum: I was wrong about JARED--his father gave Harvard a $2.5 million endowment. A book written in 2006 "The Price of Admission" included Jared. The book was about how the RICH buy their kids way into top schools.

Colleges are not immune to what kind of money they can get by taking care of the children of the wealthy. When Bush was in school his father could donate tons of money to the school and assure them of obtaining powerful people for commencement addresses and speeches. They call them "gentlemens Cs. They pass them even if they are girl chasing and coking their brains out. This is an old scholastic reality.

I think it sucks! But you're right, absolutely nothing new. Do we really think GEORGE W. BUSH got into Yale on scholastic aptitude as you ask? His GRANDFATHER (or great) was some hotshot with Yale. By contrast, AL GORE whose daddy' was also a Senator got in on his own merit--he was a National Merit Scholar. And we sure as hell know BILL CLINTON had zero money or family connections. All aptitude. And HILLARY, the same, Wellsley and then Yale.
