Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty dropped out of the race for the GOP presidential nomination on Sunday, hours after finishing a disappointing third in the Iowa straw poll.

"I wish it would have been different, but obviously the pathway forward for me doesn't exist so we are going to end the campaign," Pawlenty said on ABC's This Week from Iowa.

The low-key Midwesterner, who had struggled to gain traction in a state he had said he must win, had told supporters on a conference call shortly before the broadcast interview that he was ending his White House bid.

"I thought I would have made a great president, but obviously that pathway isn't there," Pawlenty said. "I do believe we're going to have a very good candidate who is going to beat Barack Obama."

I had a really funny feeling this was going to happen, after he went off on Bachmann the other night at the debate. He caught flack early on for not being passionate enough, backing down on his 'Obamneycare' comment on Romney, and just being too damn "nice" to win, then he tried to turn that around on a dime by attacking Bachmann, and I think that really put the final nail in the coffin for him. I look for Huntsman to be next.

Paw-lenty of reasons not to diss Teabag Tim anymore, Teatards.

So what if he stuck Minnesota with a record deficit that led to a temporary state government shutdown?

He dared to bash Bach-to-Mom. He had to go.

Sorry, I think it goes deeper than that. It's funny as hell you call Pawlenty a "teabagger" because I see this as a huge blow to the establishment GOP crew. Pawlenty's argument against Bachmann was, that she hasn't 'accomplished' anything... while he was able to barter and negotiate with liberals to 'get the job done' and legislate. Well, I am sorry, but I think this is the main problem the tea party has with the establishment GOP, that they have this mentality it is better for us to compromise our principles and work with the liberals, who are basically Marxist Socialists. Bachmann's argument is, she has fought for conservative principles when it was not popular to do so, and she will continue to fight for conservative principles and sees no reason we should negotiate or barter with Socialists. Pawlenty represents the McCain-Bush-Boehner GOP... Go along to get along! We'll give a little to get a little... but that is exactly what core conservatives are opposed to, and much of what the tea party is upset with.

Exactly, insults and lies are all the liberals have to offer America.

Obama is a one term disaster. Another 4 years of debt and deceit would destroy our Nation.

My take... This helps Romney. And the better Bachman does, the worse for Perry. Good news all around because if Obama is a one termer.... I don't want him replaced by another wacko.. Like Perry or Bachman.

Thank God...a bowl of dirt has more personality than T-Paw. Romney would be the sane choice...but everyone knows the right is anything but sane. It'll be Perry. Watch.

"Romney would be the sane choice " - poet

Okay all you moderate GOP elites... do you hear this? Do you need any better indication that Romney is NOT who we need to nominate?

With endorsements like this, Romney doesn't need any enemies.

Too bad, as Pawlenty had more to offer than many do.

OTOH, if he's throwing in the towel because he placed third in a friggin straw poll, it's better he leave early. We need a real leader this time out, not a wimp who gives up at the first sign of adversity.
