Paradigm Shift! The future is now.

Never gonna happen. Oil is more than just a fuel source.
Agreed. I am just giving them shit.
The point though that the value of oil's other uses far exceed it's value as fuel and the sooner we stop burning it the better, especially since other uses of oil involve ready recycling, unlike burning it, in which case it is gone for ever.

There's more recoverable oil now than at any time in history. How do you not know this?

They may not have state of minn but it seems that federal subsidies dont count in the larger sense of state. Wonder why the judge assumes federal money is endless ?

And we have a population headed towards 50 billion.
Whether we reach that or not, we as an organism need the ease of manufacturing oil provides to maintain a decent standard of living in an unknown future.
Make something from oil, recycle it for ever. Burn oil, gone forever.

Oil based products do not recycle forever. They degrade with each process.

As recovering technology moves along we'll find more oil. We'll also find alternate lubricants. The efficiency of motive transport will increase dramatically with technology, reducing the need for fuels. The world population will mimic what is happening in Europe and eventually decline.

Government can't affect any of this without restricting markets and personal freedoms, yet the free market can. Why do you hate freedom so much?

Yes, eventually it degrades all the way down to fuel, but why not use it many times and still get to burn it?

Furthermore, I lot of things made from oil can have very long lifespans (get a tremendous amount of use).

The Chinese are already casting modular houses from recycled plastic, for example. Not only can it be reused multiple times but the energy used to recycle it versus pumping in new oil is only 5%.

We will run out of food and clean water long before we run low on oil.

Are you drunk? We will never run out of water. Even if you burn water's constituents, it just changes back into water. We will always be able to distill or filter water. The same thing with food, food is renewable and more can be grown anytime.
Oil is not renewable. It is literally fossils we are burning, millions of years old, and collected as energy from the sun for millions of years as well.

Are you actually unaware of peak oil?

I agree that we do not actually face true overpopulation problems, but I insist quality of like will be higher if we have plenty of oil for manufacturing.

The efficiency of transportation already has increased dramatically, yet you deny that electric cars are the solution, in spite of their huge increase in efficiency. Government enabled solar to become competitive with even the presently extremely cheap natural gas, by subsidizing the industry until the technology was satisfactory as they have done in most industries, including fossil fuels.

I don't deny that electric cars could be part of the solution. My position is that the market should decide, not some asshole judge.

Actually, until large scale salt water desalinization is finally realized, we could one day find ourselves suffering from a world wide shortage of fresh water.

Yes, in less than 5 years, but that is not what this thread is about. Furthermore, desalination can occur with only solar power as an energy input and it can be done in any area near the ocean.
