Last week, the federal government scurried to tamp down rumors about government agencies such as the Weather Service buying tens of thousands of rounds of hollow-point bullets – news that some took to mean that bureaucrats were arming up against the prospect of unrest should Obama be reelected.

It turns out that it wasn’t the weather service, but NOAA – which has dozens of armed officers that patrol the nation’s fishing grounds – and several other agencies that order bullets up annually for routine training.

NOAA ordered how many rounds? Tens of thousands for dozens of officers? And its all for training? lol Each officer will should a thousand rounds for training?

I was wondering if any of those "take our country back" folks have anything special planned for Dec 21st. Anyone heard of any groups buying replicas of the Mayan calendar?

mighty fine example of government waste with this. over a billion rounds for training? hollow points for training? they could have bought regular training rounds at .25 cents a piece and saved hundreds of thousands, instead of spending $1 a round for hollow points just to send down range.

NOAA submitted a bid request.

Due to a clerical error in the federal business vendor process, a solicitation for ammunition and targets for the NOAA Fisheries Office of Law Enforcement mistakenly identified NOAA's National Weather Service as the requesting office. The error is being fixed and will soon appear correctly in the electronic federal bidding system. The ammunition is standard issue for many law enforcement agencies and it will be used by 63 NOAA enforcement personnel in their firearms qualifications and training.

Agents and officers are required to have 200 rounds in his or her duty bag, and twice-a-year firearm qualification and training calls for agents to use another 500-600 rounds. In addition, firearms instructors with more than one pistol may need more rounds in a year. In 2011, the guidance was that each agent and officer would need 700 rounds per year to meet these requirements.

howey:

apple loves legion troll....so just follow apple's lead and don't question the troll.

As I've said many times show me ONE post where \\((|))// lied or tried to pass off some bullsh!t. You may not like his posting style but what he posts stands. More than I can say for a few on here.

i did apple. but he deleted his former trolls. the mods can back me up on this. he also created a 'yurt' username on two other political boards and he simply copied and altered my posts from here to try and pass himself off as me. also, go to the warzone to see his threads about me.

he is on ignore now, so i don't know if he says anything true. i do know, his latest poll is bullshit.

let me ask you this: do you believe he is a liberal or a conservative? do you believe he for or against gun ownership?

the 'tens of thousands' number was based on a rumor per the link, do you have another source?

also, the 'dozens' of noaa officers is a very imprecise number

oh well

do you have a link that states that they bought hollow points or is your post based on the rumor mentioned in the op link

to my knowledge, these aren't purchases yet, they are requisitions for quotes on the ammo, of which I provided the actual .gov link in one of these threads for it.

I don't think he's an "anything goes" Liberal and he doesn't come across as the "don't give a damn about anyone else" Republican so I'd say he's an independent. As for gun ownership I'd say he is for ownership but with proper controls.

What's your take on it?

And neglected to mention this?

So when a couple of cops accidentally wound bystanders while defending themselves and the public from a killer, some folks piss and moan that law enforcement isn't adequately trained.

Then, an Internet rumor about an ammunition purchase gets the black-helicopter crowd all riled up, even after the myth is debunked and revealed to be a simple request for bid for - wait for it - training supplies for law enforcement.

There's just no way to satisfy wingnuts, is there?

since the 'shooter' only intended to kill one person AND never fired at the cops, i'd say that the cops didn't protect anyone but themselves after wounding 9 innocent people, eh?

Jeffrey Johnson was killed by police Friday in midtown Manhattan, after killing a former co-worker on the street and raising his .45-calibre semi-automatic gun at police officers. Although he did not get off any shots, officers fired 16 shots, killing Johnson, and wounding nine bystanders.
